Nah I don't love this. Merlin was Slytherin has a lot more contextual lore for the story making Hogwarts much older and creating a much more fantastical lore for who Merlin is. I like Merlin as being someone who helpe shaped the lore of an ancient wizarding tradition and who was the greatest wizards of wall time as described. Anything else is Slytherin erasure as who they were meant to be and why they are who they are
Lucius Malfoy is an interesting character for me in this Malfoid story. Because he has a lot of potential and different ways to take him.
I always like to stick closer to canon with him, as while some people speculate or say it's implied he's abusive, we really just see him be a strict father.
And I think with Malfoid it's much of the same. He's a strict parent, but he does love his family. And that's fun. Cause it's very easy to write "Evil Man does all things Evil", when it's an interesting thought that, Yes Lucius is a Pure Blood Supremicist who is a Death Eater, but he can still love his family.
All this to say, I love seeing the funny stories or comics where Lucius finds Malfoid and Harry together and is like "Ah fuck, I gotta rebel against the Dark Lord now".
Which is funny yes, but does raise an interesting character facet of Lucius. When he was a Death Eater during Voldemorts first reign, he was either married or soon to be married in some form or fashion. But he didn't have a daughter yet.
So when Voldemort returns, Lucius isn't like "Fuck yeah, let's start hexing the Muggleborns!". He's got things to consider. It's a struggle. He wasn't exactly vying for Voldemorts return in canon, but he does serve.
The idea that having this daughter changes Lucius to really have to consider what to do to keep her safe is fascinating to me.
I've had a scene in my head since the Yule Ball. Malfoid returns at the end of Hogwarts with a spring in her step and some glee. She and Harry have either admitted feelings or gotten closer. And then she comes to her fathers study. He's haggard. A drink on the table.
Lucius doesn't usually drink or at least have as much as he's having, so Malfoid is thrown off. He informs her he's her that he's heard she and Potter have grown closer.
Malfoid bumbles a bit, but Lucius cuts to the chase. She cannot pursue a romantic relationship with Potter. Malfoid protests. Hard. But then Lucius looks at her and it silences her.
It's not anger. It's not the sterness or disapproval she's used to. It's fear. The Dark Lord has returned, he tells her. If he finds out you have a connection to Potter... It's left unsaid.
Lucius wants her safe. He doesn't want her in the Dark Lords crosshairs. If that means he has to break his daughters heart, he will do it. Even if it pains him so.

I have been lurking and as an aspiring writer have wanted to contribute something unique. I think I have found my angle. This does not require any of the current disparate Malfoid canons to be considered personally true; this is something that can stand alongside any of the existing canons to give the stories more depth.
The premise: This could have been building up for a couple of books since the Triwizard tournament or even earlier. Every time that Gryffindor and Slytherin get double potions together Draco and Harry end up together at the same table. At first it starts as Draco making snide remarks, but then eventually she starts actually helping Harry here and there, but she's still making remarks. And then in the HBP when he finds the book, and he starts actually doing a lot better and even better than her in some cases, she notices and brings it up with Hermione. This can solidify both her and Harry's budding relationship, but also her friendship with Hermione and it ends up becoming a plot point that thickens every relationship.
This makes them notice each other.
For Draco, she's noticing his care, his hands, his arms, his screwed up face when he's trying to pay attention to what he's doing and then that cute little face of frustration when he does something obvious wrong. She can't let him know of course so she corrects him severely and teases him.
For Potter, he notices her hands, her smell, her face, the way her hair falls, the way she brushes it back behind her ear when she's trying to focus and that cute little scrunch of her nose when she doesn't get something exactly right.
They get to observe one another closely in a way they would not normally get to and slowly they really start to understand each other and fall in love with each others mannerisms. Possibly even mimicking the best parts of each other in an effort to improve... in potions. Strictly in potions.
By the later books, the pattern has shifted. The remarks stay sharp, but Draco starts quietly correcting him when he is about to botch something irreversible. Sharp words of encouragement or even her hand on his, showing him how to stir something properly that he started wrong; strictly “try not to blow us both up, it would be embarrassing”. Maybe others even start to notice.
In the HBP, this is good stuff. When Harry gets the Prince’s book and suddenly starts producing near-perfect potions (sometimes better than Draco’s), the shared table makes the change impossible for her to miss. She has spent years watching exactly how he works. The improvement is too specific and too sudden. She may not confront him very directly at first. But instead maybe she goes to Hermione. This is the one person who would both notice the same thing and have no reason to protect Harry’s secret. This improves Draco and Harry (and could improve the emotion in the bathroom "sectum sempra" confrontation). This improves Draco and Hermione (they now have a greater reason to speak and be allied in something that both irks them: Harry Potter is finally better than both of them at something). This improves even Harry and Hermione who has now a third party (who notices oddly specific things about Harry) who confirms her suspicions. Hell, even Ron is pissed that everyone seems to notice something he's not getting.
It stays in the same class schedules. It doesn't require a ton of rewriting. It simply makes one recurring classroom situation do more emotional and relational work across multiple books, so that by the time the HBP book appears, the reactions feel earned rather than sudden.
I would love to hear your thoughts.

A week before your tweet. I'm sure this dude didn't "come up with it" either. It just kind of happened.
