@PBanpoys@camcamian25@TheQuartering Ah, so I guess if you personally really liked scifi films and also really like the circus, then Nolan could've set the Odyssey on the moon and had everyone dressed up in clown costumes, and you would have nothing at all to say about that so long as you personally enjoyed it?
@PBanpoys@camcamian25@TheQuartering Yes, it was. You're just being obtuse.
These choices are not simply subjective artistic choices. They are objectively incorrect given the context that they exist in. Because we know what ancient Greece was, and that places boundaries on what kind changes you can reasonably make.
@PBanpoys@camcamian25@TheQuartering Ancient Greece was not some fictional place like Atlantis.
We have a very clear picture of what it was and what it wasn't. Very little, if any of this, is open to the level of artistic license that he has taken.
I don't like cultural vandalism, and that's all this movie is.
@PBanpoys@camcamian25@TheQuartering His history is irrelevant.
The merits of the film are what matters.
His choices about casting, dialog, costumes, set pieces, and music are objectively bad.
He's made a period piece and intentionally ignored the norms of that period.
No one does that without having an agenda.
@PBanpoys@camcamian25@TheQuartering Right, it's a "conspiracy theory" that Hollywood is political.
I'm still not hearing any argument from you as to why this movie won't be bad.
Citing your belief in the infallibility of Nolan is not an argument.
It's an article of faith, and I don't pray at the church of Nolan.
@PBanpoys@camcamian25@TheQuartering Take your fanboy blinders off.
Spielberg is also a good director, and yet he phoned in that turd Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Nolan is making Oscar-bait because the academy changed its criteria for nomination.
He wants to add more awards to his shelf.
It's as simple as that.
@PBanpoys@camcamian25@TheQuartering Lol, another person feigning objectivity.
"I've come to my position through rationality and nothing else."
and yet I haven't seen a single rational defense of this film, including from you.
It's just hopes & dreams that it will somehow magically shock everyone and not be crap.
@PBanpoys@camcamian25@TheQuartering This is just petty projection.
All I see people doing is saying that this movie isn't going to be bad because channels they hatewatch online are saying it's going to be bad.
It's politically and emotionally motivated contrarianism.
The person who's been groomed here is you.
@camcamian25@TheQuartering My opinion is based on 10+ years of badly made movies laden with ham-fisted political allegory.
You don't have to be especially bright to recognize patterns.
So you believing that you can't discern anything about a movie until you see it makes you either dishonest or naΓ―ve.
@pureMetatron It's funny listening to people decry "manufactured outrage" when these same people are engaging in "manufactured appreciation".
They'll make videos defending woke stuff in various forms of entertainment, but never show up in sufficient numbers to make them a financial success.
@MauLer93 Whether true or not, the simple reality is that the consumer doesn't want to listen to someone bitch and moan about how hard their job is.
Someone needs to pull this person aside and tell them to put the phone down for a while.
@TheLaurenChen It's always been about revenge.
Revenge against their fathers for not buying them a pony when they were 12, or some other childish nonsense that they never got over.
Feminism was always a movement helmed by the spoiled children of the upper-middle class.
@TheColourOfHear@TheQuartering A Muslim would buy it specifically because it was a pub just to shut it down, because alcohol is haram.
Or turn it into a mosque, which has already happened to many Christian churches which have also been bought by Muslims.
It's nice to assume the best. It's also not reality.
