British university is LITERALLY just an excuse for left wing indoctrination. I started this year and here are a few of my experiences:
1) My left wing friends are surprisingly unaware of some of Britain's major issues. For example, one of my friends was clueless about the scale of the grooming gangs in the UK and another friend didn't know that the majority of those coming here on small boats are working age men.
2) The university teachers act like we have the power structures of the 1950s and talk about straight, white men having all the power. For example, on the topic of gender, they act as if literally the majority of western institutions aren't teaching that there are more than 2 genders. It's completely out of touch with reality.
3) To further the point that they are on the side of the mainstream and power, they don't substantiate their claims. You would think that if we live in a society which is pro-capitalist, they would have to explain how they believe that capitalism is exploitative and causes colonisation. Yet they don't - they just say this as if its a given.
4) While we are taught that we should "question everything" - they don't mean that. They mean questions the views of a straight white male capitalist. In one of my classes, a student gave a critique with postcolonialism theory and the teacher replied quite aggressively. One of the students, to de-escalate the situation said "I think we all agree here, we're just saying it in different ways." as if its a good thing that we all agree. I thought the point of politics was to disagree and debate but instead we're being taught opinions as facts.
The university system takes advantage of the youthful desire to rebel against the establishment by pretending as if they're not the establishment. Similarly, you have a lot of students who just want to get on the teachers good side who just nod along and repeat whatever they say.
I have no problem with left wing ideas being taught, I'm doing a politics degree - it's expected. However, we're being taught leftist theories (CRT or gender) as fact. No wonder you have young people who can't define what a woman is and hate their country.
There are a few classes and teachers where this doesn't apply but overall, university just feels like you have to spout leftist nonsense and if you say anything different, you get shut down. I don't know what the solution is and honestly I'm tempted to keep my head down since there's no point arguing with a teacher who just wants to dictate postmodernist leftist theory.
There is no moral equivalence between Hamas slaughtering civilians and Israel trying to stop terror attacks.
Every single casualty in Gaza is on Hamas.
Many people have been chanting:
“From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free”.
I’m sure it makes them feel pretty good about themselves.
I’ve added this map for their convenience.
Between the River and the Sea…is Israel.
So what you’re actually chanting is “kick-out or kill all the Jews”.
A fact that goes missed:
In the Palestinian state in Gaza there was no Israeli “occupation” whatsoever.
Not one inch.
Not one Israeli soldier or civilian.
In 2005 Israel officially left the entire Gaza Strip to the very last inch.
We pulled out ALL Israelis and ALL IDF soldiers.
We pulled back to the 1949 borders.
At first, we applied no blockade or siege.
We handed the keys over to the Palestinian authority.
At that point they had an opportunity to turn Gaza into an amazing and beautiful state.
A Singapore with beautiful beaches, hotels, tourism, business and culture.
They chose otherwise.
A majority of Palestinians voted Hamas whose explicit goal is to destroy Israel.
Hamas won both in Gaza and in Judea and Samaria (aka “the West Bank”).
They began shooting rockets from their new state into Israel.
Tens of thousands of rockets killed children and citizens of Israel, ever since.
THEY CHOSE DEATH FOR JEWS OVER LIFE FOR PALESTINIANS.
Their goal has never been to live side-by-side Israel, but to destroy Israel.
For the past 20 years Israelis hoped again and again that our neighbours seek happiness for their families and this will ultimately moderate them.
We Israelis believe in the inherent goodness of humans.
We were wrong.
Dead wrong.
This is the tough reality we’re facing.
This is a battle between an ideology of life and one of death.
We say “le-Haim” - to life.
We say “Shalom” - peace.
They say “itbach el yahud” - slaughter the Jews.
This is our reality of 2023.
Let me be clear: all Israelis, wall-to-wall are now united to bring total defeat to the terrorists agents of death.
Life will prevail over death.
Please don’t try to stop us, because we won’t until we win.
Am Yisrael Chai🇮🇱
This conflict weighs so heavily on me. I have Jewish friends and I have Muslim friends. I have a deep affinity for Israel and for Arab culture, and do a lot of work in the Middle East.
But let’s be clear about some things. Anti-Israel + Pro-Palestine demonstrations erupted around the world *before* Israel responded.
BEFORE.
Let's recap that sequence of events.
1. Palestinian militants wake up in the morning and decide to go and murder Israeli civilians, take hostages, and declare their intent to destroy Israel
2. Demonstrations erupt around the world supporting Palestine and condemning Israel
3. Israel responds to this threat
Go back over it again in case there is any ambiguity.
There is no moral grey area to inhabit here. No fog of war that one can hide behind.
Palestinian militants murdered civilians. In cold blood. They raped Israeli women. They set children on fire and beheaded them. Grandmothers were raped so brutally their pelvis was broken. A pregnant woman had her baby cut out of her stomach and beheaded, only to then suffer beheading herself. Palestinian militants murdered Jews, on a mass scale, in the most barbaric and heinous ways possible. And then vowed that they would keep going, to the thunderous applause of their sympathisers living in the West.
Members of our intelligentsia and elite students openly cheered Hamas, laying the blame *entirely* at the feet of Israeli policy. They justified the most barbaric atrocities under the banner of liberation and decolonization.
If you can't see the problem with that, I don't know what else to tell you.
It is easier of course to just keep quiet, to not talk about it. But I am compelled to.
Because 90 years ago, no one spoke up.
Yet.
It is important to recognize that this is war, and in this war, there are people are dying on both sides - children, women, civilians.
Many people have been trying to build bridges to bring about peace – and all their work crumbled just like that. The world before Oct 7 was a different world. Peace in the Middle East was achievable and now, we’re back to reliving ancient hatreds between the sons of Abraham.
One of the problems with discourse today isn’t just about the things we say; sometimes it’s about the things we don’t say.
Even when we think that “our side” may have not been totally right, we hold back from criticizing because we fear weakening the moral standing of “our side.”
So on one side, they cannot criticise Hamas, and on the other, they cannot criticise the Israeli government / IDF. But Hamas isn’t Palestine, and the Israeli government isn’t Israelis / Jews.
This distinction is important. And for those who say “but Palestinians support Hamas overwhelmingly,” please ask yourself exactly what choice you would have if you were born into the same cultural and social milieu?
You’ve heard the phrase the “bigotry of low expectations.” Sometimes it is compassionate to expect less.
Moral clarity is important, but so is being compassionate and not giving up on humanity.
When will we beat swords into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks? When will we no longer take up sword against each other, nor train for war anymore?
I recall the words of Rudyard Kipling:
“What profit to kill men?”
“Very little - as I know; but if evil men were not now slain; it would not be a good world for weaponless dreamers.”
Let me explain something to you, @BBC
We’re fighting the war of the free world against radical Islamic barbarism, rape, head-chopping and baby-burning.
It’s a war between good and evil.
The fact that you call these Hamas barbarians “militants”, and that you take their word and side shames you, BBC.
If you think London is far away, you’re dead wrong.
Your moral weakness invites these monsters to attack you.
Israel will fight and win this war with or without you.
Just don’t be surprised when they come for you.
Sickening
Hamas blow up civilians in a convoy - the media rush to blame Israel.
Hamas blow up a hospital - the media rush to blame Israel.
Why can't the media EVER WAIT FOR FACTS before rushing to blame Israel.
It isn't just bad journalism - it is an antisemitic sickness.
The entire world should know: It was barbaric terrorists in Gaza that attacked the hospital in Gaza, and not the IDF.
Those who brutally murdered our children also murder their own children.
