@SaturnMonolith @jackklok @AndrewDessler That’s not the exact logic at all!! Chernobyl was a one-off tragedy caused by poor design and human errors. There are thousands of reservoirs releasing CO2 and CH4 right now. Don’t get me wrong - I like hydro - but it ain’t ever gonna be zero carbon

@SaturnMonolith @jackklok @AndrewDessler In most cases hydro involves building a dam (millions of tons of concrete at 0.5 tons of CO2 per 1 ton of concrete) and then flooding a valley. Rotting vegetation and flooded soils release CO2 and CH4 for decades at levels that can be worse than equivalent fossil fuel plants:
