I don't even own a TV. Was told to file an affidavit and make myself available for an "inspection" of my property to be excluded. Imagine that, I have to let the government into my home to prove I don't own something.
A junior emailed me a draft at 11 PM, proud of his efficiency.
I waited until 3 AM to respond with 'See me first thing.'
He showed up at 7 AM, disheveled and caffeinated.
I asked if he'd slept.
He said barely.
Good, I replied, insomnia builds character.
Then told him the draft was fine, just testing response time.
Sleepless nights forge sharp lawyers.
An associate set his status to out of office for his honeymoon.
His auto-reply said he would have no access to email.
I found this philosophically fascinating.
I emailed him a 300-page lease agreement and asked for high-level thoughts by noon.
I knew he had cell service in Cabo.
The Wi-Fi at the Four Seasons is famously robust.
At 11:45 AM, I saw the little green dot appear next to his name on Teams.
A document with his initials attached hit my inbox 10 minutes later.
He apologized for the delay, citing a snorkeling excursion.
I didn't reply to thank him.
I just removed his auto-reply privileges in the IT portal.
Marriage is a partnership, but so is this firm.
Only one of them requires a buy-in.
Just received some tragic news: a PD in a jurisdiction where I do a lot of work died overnight. Dude MAY have been 32 at the oldest.
He was in the middle of trial & didn't show up for closings this morning. So very sad.
Do NOT let your job stress you.

We are very close to this. We have around 260 judges for a population of around 64 million. 40 of those are purely appellate judges. Judges are severely overworked and underpaid.

Dikeledi Magadzi was an excellent MEC for agriculture in Limpopo. She went beyond saying that she had an open door policy - when farmers needed her, she was immediately available, helpful and she could get things done. While fighting Foot&Mouth disease she often served at the road blocks with us, coordinating police, SANDF, traffic officials, commandos and farmers associations to monitor the transport of animals and meat. She joined Limpopo farmers to Mozambique to negotiate land leases. Condolences to her family. She was a great leader who could put party politics aside and focus on the job
