Tokyo is one of my favorite cities in the world. It has the big city feel of NYC but it’s spotless. You also see little kids running around alone. Cute posters of manga everywhere. Japanese people are so friendly and helpful. 10/10 experience.
The fact that this tiny corner exists solely so someone can sit down, drink something warm, and read a book makes me emotional in a way I cannot explain
Søren Kierkegaard on the Importance of Walking
“Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Everyday, I walk myself into a state of well-being & walk away from every illness. I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it. But by sitting still, & the more one sits still, the closer one comes to feeling ill. Thus if one just keeps on walking, everything will be all right.”
Nobody talks about the personality shift in your 30s where you no longer want to be impressive, you just want to be rested, regulated, and completely unavailable to anything that drains you
I don’t care what anyone says, wired earphones were better. No charging, no Bluetooth randomly disconnecting, no one ear dying before the other, no bullshit. You plugged them in and they just fcking worked. Technology really complicated something that wasn’t broken.
I hate when people at work ask you what books you are reading for professional development. I am reading books to counteract the effects of being professionally developed. I am reading books that bring me back to being human.
