Many of these lists of Syrian scholars supporting the SR mention names who have no known stance in support of the SR and are only included because they left Syria (I assume)

In fact the ones who stayed quiet from these very names are even criticized and attacked by some

Of course this isn't to attack the scholars who did support it (because there were those who did) or to say that it affects them as scholars

Many scholars decided to not get involved and there's nothing wrong with that, in fact it's the best course of action in that time

In 2011, Shaykh al-Bouti was asked a question by someone from Jisr al-Shughur (Idlib)

He said that soldiers from the Syrian army entered his house to search them

They searched even the women, touched their bodies and put their hands on their awrah in front of our eyes...

Shaykh al-Bouti responded:

The criminal who did that is a صائل (an assaulter who did a crime)

And if your brother had been the one to have killed him, his blood (ie. the soldier's) would have been spilled for a correct cause and there would be no repercussion (on the brother)

What a lot of ignorants miss when accusing al-Bouti of supporting the Assad regime is that his entire stance is based on the narrations of evil-doing rulers and how we deal with them

He repeated these narrations all the time in his speeches, which are public and recorded

This is one of the many examples of scholars criticizing the tyrant Assad regime

But for some people, if you don't issue a string of insults and curses at a tyrant, who isn't afraid of Allah, into a microphone, you're a stooge!

One of the things they mentioned is a gambling place that was opened in the suburbs, and Assad promised them to close it (whether he actually went through with it is a different story)

One of the scholars in that meeting was Shaykh Krayem Rajih, who supported the Syrian Revolution, which shows that meeting with Assad isn't proof you support him
