The biggest difference in the market is you are paying for potential and not for quality. In 2008, £80M on CR (£130M inflation adjusted, £160M football inflation adjusted) got you a Balon D'or winner. No people are paying £120M just one potential and..
Can't believe that media and Carrick are seeing positives after that! Played more than half the players out of position with no intent to win the game. Suits a team fighting relegation but then I guess when you are 2 pts above the zone, that's all you are thinking about?
I don't get the team today at all. In my experience, whenever a manager has started picking teams inexplicably, they are a dead man walking. Time is running out for Carrick fast.
United only play in patches. Struggle against high press, physicality and low block. Another poor performance and more importantly points dropped from position of perceived strength- after City, Everton. The reality is Carrick is not able to get the best put of this team at all.
But even with those limitations U should win games against Hull, a crippled Everton & 10 man City. Or atleast show the intent to win. The likes of Villa, 3Bs show it all the time. Yes they don't win all games but it is clear what they want to do & most importantly show intent!
Man United attacking strategy is all over the place. Counter attack, play through the middle, get it wide and attack the wide areas. There is no clear identity. Defensively error prone individually, pressing is inconsistent. With such lack of clarity has anyone won anything...
In recent times? Only Ten Hag comes to mind, couple of domestic trophies and we know how it ended. The biggest issue is intent, and you can coach that. You can put all the blame on the owners and people are right to point out you can't compete at the top end and that's fair...
Gotta love Shetty/Rankireddy in the way they bring that raw Indian energy on the turf. "Age ja, age ja", "maar" are the phrases we all yelling while growing up playing badminton 🏸. Haha
Man United fans wondering why they could only spend £150M on midfield where City spent £330M. Well, Prize money revenue aside, City sold their midfielders for £160M so net spend wasn't very different!!
No point over reacting but United have been poor in whole of pre season, particularly attacking wise. Also the lack of effort and urgency from the squad is something we have seen some many times over the years. This result wasn't good for anyone. Pressure on already.
@RedMarrow_ Contract tenure went down, player had a poor season and United still overpaid. But definitely better than shelling out 100M+ and market is so inflated now. 7/10 deal from United stand point.
@ggmu4_ll Issue also was United's weakness against defending wide areas & cross into the box, especially if overload is created. The RWB was left 1:1 with aging Shaw with no support from Dorgu/ Rashford. Teams will try to expose this as piercing through middle is tough with Santos sitting.
If anything this game screams why United need more signings, many players not in good shape, agreed but quite few would not be good enough to start games consistently.
Not one to comment on pre season but Carrick has clearly got a cohesive 4-2-3-1 here. Built to press strongly, keep the ball, uick moves. But the drop in quality from Mount to Fletcher shows why #mufc must sign a midfielder. Also Dorgu should'nt be anything above a 3rd choice LW
