Devastating flash floods have struck four eastern and southeastern districts of Bangladesh, leaving hundreds of thousands stranded in numerous villages.

I urge the government to take necessary steps to safeguard families, livelihoods and properties in those districts. I also call upon leaders and activists across all levels of the @bdbnp78 to support the affected people with humanitarian relief, including shelter, food, and logistics.

We must adhere to our humanity and be at one another’s side during these times of crisis.

Life-Saving Weather Forecast for the People of Chittagong and the Chittagong Hill Tracts

There is a strong possibility of devastating floods like those in 2023 and deadly landslides similar to those in 2017 in Chittagong and the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

The rain is gradually moving towards the districts of Chittagong and the Chittagong Hill Tracts from the direction of Comilla, Feni, and the Tripura state. However, there is a strong likelihood of continuous rain over Comilla and Feni districts for at least another 6 to 12 hours. Starting from 5 AM today and continuing throughout the day, there is almost a 100% chance of heavy to very heavy rain over the districts of Chittagong, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Bandarban, and Cox's Bazar. This heavy rain is likely to continue for at least 6 to 12 hours.

As a result, residents near the banks of all rivers, including Sangu, Karnaphuli, Halda, Naf, Ichamati, Matamuhuri, must seek safe shelter as soon as the sun rises. Shopkeepers along the riverbanks should quickly move their goods to safety. There is a strong possibility of severe flash floods similar to those in 2023.

Starting from today, Thursday, there is a significant risk of widespread landslides in the districts of Chittagong and the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Deadly landslides, similar to those in 2017, are highly likely in these areas. People living on steep hills or on the slopes of cut hills must be moved to safe shelters before noon today. Not a single life should be lost due to landslides.
