@robertgriker As a music teacher, I have to defend doing some memorization. As a musician, you have to know scales. Practicing them and warm ups, plus other things helps in playing music. That being said, I find that following the student’s interests serves learning the best.

@robertgriker And then there are we teachers whose hands are tied in every way imaginable. Told what to teach when, say this not that, etc. Caught between both higher ups and parents (although I have worked with good ones from both).
