If someone spends five hours using AI to create something creative, who are we to call it lazy or trash?

@n215lpm @DumbsYT @NomMacdonald @Elite5002 Fair point, but is a YouTube thumbnail really comparable to art? I wouldn’t call a YouTuber spending five hours making a mediocre thumbnail an artist. Thumbnails have mostly been sloppy content and probably will continue to be, in my opinion.

You can think it’s lazy, but that’s just a value judgment. My point was about productivity, using tools to save time so you can spend it elsewhere.

@DumbsYT @SlippitySleww @Elite5002 At some point you won’t be able to tell AI from Photoshop, and then any prejudice won’t matter during the five seconds you spend deciding what to click. I also think negative bias toward AI will shrink as the technology becomes more widespread and accessible.

@DumbsYT @NomMacdonald @n215lpm @Elite5002 We’re probably just in a transition period where AI can’t fully match human Photoshop yet. Soon you’ll barely notice the difference, and if a creator saves an hour on the thumbnail and spends it improving the video, that’s a good trade off in my opinion.

Using AI to create a creative work is as much a skill as using photoshop, the means shouldn’t affect the ends. Imo you are comparing apples with oranges, I could also point at bad paint art piece crediting AI.

@shadowthief19 @Elite5002 @DumbsYT About 0.05–0.2 kWh ~0.05€ is used. Around 0.001 kWh was used to generate this answer. For perspective, my PC has used about 0.07 kWh over the last 10 minutes. If people want to pay for it, they will. Ultimately, you'd also have to be upset about every other kind of consumption.

@DumbsYT @Elite5002 But in general, AI simply speeds up your workflow in any field. I can do my work at roughly 10x the pace because of AI, and I don't see why something like thumbnail generation should be any different, it’s literally just a small image meant to grab people's attention.
