In a rematch from 2024, Telisa Franklin unseated incumbent State Rep. Gabby Salinas in this Memphis district. Franklin was backed by a bevy of local elected officials, including Memphis Mayor Paul Young and County Sheriff Floyd Bonner, which clearly made a difference.

Andrea Bond Johnson won the HD80 Dem primary over two county commissioners thanks to her name recognition from previous state house runs and a strong financial advantage. She'll now face Bolivar Mayor Julian McTizic, in what may be a more competitive election than expected.

Despite questions about his military record, realtor Brian Stewart soundly won the HD45 GOP primary over former Sumner Co. Commissioner Chris Hughes and perennial candidate John Gentry, who largely cannibalized each other's support.

John Crawford, who last faced a primary opponent in 2016, lost handily to Sullivan Co. Commissioner Jessica Means. Negative attacks ads attempting to tie Means to Democrats failed miserably, as she won every precinct in the district.

2 GOP incumbents lost their seats on the Hamilton Co. Comm on Aug 6. Dist 11 saw a rematch from 2022 & a margin swing of nearly 12 points to the left! Dist 8 went from uncontested to a Dem flip by over 10 points. The County Commission is now divided 6-5 in the GOP's favor.

In Comm Dist 3, Super's choice to run an immensely negative campaign paid off in the primary, as she eked out a win over constituent services-focused Oster by 11 votes. However, Super's about-face on development issues and her tax problems led to her losing the general election.

Both Dem flips in Knox County got a boost from GOP primary voters. In BoE Dist 9 and Comm Dist 3, voters chose the conservative outsider over the moderate incumbent by close margins. Kristy was the school board chair, while Sofield wanted to bring politics into school decisions.

Community organizer Brandon Huckaby flipped District 3 due to a combination of a campaign focused on local issues and an opponent mired in personal scandals. This suburban district has continued to move left in the 2020s, with this flip being foreshadowed by a Dem BoE win in 2024

After a summer of headlines concerning book bans and budget shortfalls, the Knox County BoE flipped to Dem control for the first time since the races became partisan! Brandy Jenkins in District 9, a historically GOP seat, drove the flip but margins moved left across the county.

Healthcare advocate @gabbysalinas won a tight August primary against Telisa Franklin by 132 votes. Salinas has no general election competition in this sprawling Memphis district, and will be the first Latina and queer woman to represent Shelby County in the TN General Assembly.
