Most victims were 5-13 years old, with approximatley 80% identified as girls. Children who were still minors during the operation were rescued and are receiving protection and aftercare from national authorities.

A couple appeared in the Bellville Magistrates Court this week on human trafficking charges after allegedly luring victims abroad with fake job offers. Authorities say they promised work in Thailand but trafficked victims to Cambodia, where passports were confiscated, and they were forced to scam people at another call centre. Lt Col Siyabulela Vukubi of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation warned that scammers prey on those seeking better opportunities and urged other victims to come forward. The couple has been denied bail and remains in custody as investigations continue, Western Cape NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila says. For the full story, follow at https://t.co/bVKo1a0jW7

The words we use matter.
They shape how we understand child sexual abuse and exploitation and how we act to end it.
When language is unclear or inconsistent, it leads to:
🔵 weaker laws
🔵 poor data
🔵 harm being dismissed
That’s why we are shifting away from saying “online child sexual exploitation and abuse” to “technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation and abuse.”
This reflects how abuse today can shift between online and in-person spaces and via different technologies including AI-powered tools.
This #SaferInternetDay find out about #DisruptingHarm's work to end tech-facilitated child sexual exploitation and abuse across 25 countries.

GirlsDoPorn is one of the largest sex trafficking cases that has ever been prosecuted. And in this week's Consider Before Consuming episode, we have the privilege of hearing directly from a GDP trafficking survivor, now an advocate against trafficking and exploitation.
In this episode, Mariah shares her story—from how she was trafficked to the harsh realities of living with nonconsensual imagery online, the fight for justice in the courts, and how she now offers hope and healing to other survivors like herself. Through connection, witness, and advocacy, she came to recognize and share the strength, intelligence, and resilience it takes not only to survive exploitation but to keep living a full life afterward.
If you're wondering why victims don't "just leave," how sex trafficking actually occurs in cases like GirlsDoPorn, or why some survivors seem to comply or return, Mariah’s story offers a clearer picture.
