Roots Allotments have been in the news recently after both Deborah Meaden & Chris Packham have voiced their disgust at the destruction of Skylarks nesting sites at their new allotments in Bristol. When
@RootsAllotments@DeborahMeaden@Clairerising No, just pick the right sites to do it. Why not choose brown sites in the middle of cities that people who may want them can actually access?!
Increasing access to green spaces is a must– and allotments are a great way to do that , and more . But when you’re a venture capital-backed firm developing on species rich grassland , with breeding skylarks . . . you’re in the wrong @RootsAllotments

@morss_alex It's been reported left, right and centre but no one is doing anything. All these wildlife protection groups can't seem to do anything until the damage is done - which is a bit backwards really
@Kieran__kieran@UKREiiF@Pagabo_ Looking forward to Roots being quizzed on their butchering of an ecologically vital site in N Somerset. Their destruction of land used by red-listed skylarks and linnets and their killing of wild deer. Roots Allotments Uncovered on Facebook. Or https://t.co/nDhzSAfH3z
@chrissiew4@DanicaPriest Some tractors were dumping 14 loads of soil (which last time they did this were full of plastic) and one tractor was to block the entrance so locals couldn't go in and protest or protect the land/nests
@ranger1uk@christinazaba@chrissiew4@DanicaPriest@RootsAllotments@Natures_Voice Abbots Leigh, North Somerset. A fair way outside Bristol. Allota Futureland Ltd aka Roots call it Bristol in their marketing. They expect to do this all over the country in Green Belt land, & say it’s going to be a £100M business. Venture capital backed.
@ChrisGPackham@Natures_Voice Meanwhile. Just outside #Bristol venture capitalist backed private allotment firm Roots Allotments - having already euthanised a deer that got stuck on its fencing - are dumping 100s tonnes of composted municipal waste on a wildflower meadow known to be populated by skylarks.
