@tim_rolls Any genuine self-reflection wld involve assessing if Head Coach not having autonomy / control over squad composition & team selection has had negative impact. Chance of that? Any new manager wanting to be with us long term would surely require that..
The New Year can stir up all kinds of complicated feelings, especially if you’re already having a hard time. Add in the pressure to celebrate and it can all just feel like too much.
If you find this a hard time of year, you're not on your own – we’ll be here all night long 💚
Whatever your view on assisted dying, this Commons debate has shown MPs at their best: thoughtful, measured, respectful, non-partisan. A good antidote to those who think they're all in it for themselves.

This will fill so many people with hope for the future. We will continue to support this bill as it moves through Parliament.
What a moment.

Years of reporting on assisted dying has convinced me that it can be done safely. In our cover story this week I try to take an evidenced-based approach to an emotive topic, but know there are other views!
So today: Which country should we be comparing ourselves to—🇨🇦 or 🇦🇺? A🧵
The cross party Health and Social Care Committee reported after studying Assisted Dying in Canada, Australia etc. that they found no evidence of coercion, nor of the so-called slippery slope, no adverse effects to palliative care. And no country has repealed their law.
"This is not just for the few dying horribly: everyone will die, and everyone who ever thinks about what kind of death they could face deserves to know they can go when they choose at the end." @pollytoynbee

Compassion and safety are the cornerstones of Kim Leadbeater MP’s assisted dying bill; bringing choice to those who want and need it as they die, but also introducing regulation and scrutiny where there is currently none. That benefits us all.

“I don’t want to suffer and I don’t want my family to suffer.”
Thank you @kimleadbeater for speaking with @sophieRblake who has terminal cancer and is fighting for change.
For Sophie, an assisted dying law would mean she could live her life to the full, without fear of death.
@pollytoynbee gets it. So hope @kimleadbeater ensures the proposed #assisteddying legislation is based on incurable suffering rather than any arbitrary time limit for predicted death. The latter will exclude many that she & other MPs would expect to be included
“My mother, despite good palliative care, begged her GP to help her die.”
@pollytoynbee writes in the @guardian about assisted dying. She hopes legislations “will not just rescue a few from shocking deaths, but all of us from fear it might happen to us.”

Opponents of #AssistedDying routinely claim that you just have to “look at what’s happened in Canada” as “proof” of a “slippery slope” to widen eligibility with lesser controls. If only they relied on facts rather than misinformation… @kimleadbeater@MDMDmydecision

Thanks you to @kimleadbeater for bringing this bill forward.
This is a chance to right the wrongs of this cruel law. It is already too late for so many, but we need to do this for people suffering now and in the future.

BREAKING: @kimleadbeater is bringing forward a bill to legalise assisted dying.
She recently topped the ballot for private members bills. A vote is likely before Xmas.
Parliament has debated this before, but it looks more likely to pass than ever.
