@gamerlearner I honestly think it's just rooted in seeing students as less than and not worthy of payment (which represents the only source of worth, power, and prestige in a capitalist society). The assumption behind peer review is often that academics do it as part of their paid workload.
How are we still talking about whether or not to pay students for the work they do to improve universities? Like, actually, HOW? In over a decade, I've never heard a single valid reason for this inequity. #sva23
Such a pleasure to give my keynote at @StudentVoiceAUS symposium today, "Quiet students or silenced voices? An intersectional and trauma informed approach to student voice in higher education".
A poignant topic to be discussing the day before the Voice referendum #sva23#yes23
@sparqs_Simon and @alijaquet sharing professional standards framework for student engagement. I so WISH these had been more commonly used when I was in #academia to help more clearly navigate, articulate, and share the value of the work we do in #StudentEngagement! #sva23
I'll be giving a keynote on #diversity#Equity and #Inclusion at the Professional Conference Organisers Association conference 2023.
📣I'd love to hear YOUR experiences! In events\conferences you've been to;
👍What's felt inclusive?
👎What's felt exclusionary?

I started a thing!
✔️DO: See #LivedExperience as expertise that is just as valuable as professional qualifications, & pay people accordingly.
❌DON'T: Negotiate down, ask them to volunteer, or confuse passion for altruism.
