@LordProHegseth@SupremeDeism no chance. in what other post-emancipation society did such a working-class alliance lead to a 'communist' revolution? or even come close.
@ryanswalters73 Madison, Federalist 45: Constitution as a compact made by the "people of the United States" in their aggregate capacity, not a treaty between independent and sovereign state governments.
@ryanswalters73 James Wilson, 1787: “His position is, that the supreme power resides in the States, as governments; and mine is, that it resides in the PEOPLE, as the fountain of government.”
@hsakotc11 Bottom line: the CSA never systematically traded slaves liberty for service. Now, why does it matter? The CSA was still about defending slavery — THAT’S WHY THEY DIDN’T FREE THEM.
@hsakotc11 Then you should know how this debate runs. If you’re surprised that 3/65 is the last month of the war, so the provision never had effect, you might need to bone up.
@ManifestHistory@jebsmith764 not good history. the North was overwhelmingly agrarian even after the start of industrialization in *some* parts of the region in the 1820s. do better.
