The Landlord Tax Raid Will Hit Tenants.

The OBR has confirmed the true cost of Healey’s latest tax raid on property owners.

He is hiking property income tax rates by another 2%, taking the total rise to 4% from April.

The OBR’s official forecast warns this policy will directly backfire on renters.

The Tories accuse Healey of quietly cutting the military budget by £1bn a year for the next two years.

Red Book figures show the Treasury clawed back cash when military pension costs came in lower than expected, rather than letting the armed forces reinvest it.

James Cartlidge calls it a “complete dereliction of duty.”
It is a terrible look for a Chancellor who once resigned over defence shortfalls 👀

Budget.

The Chancellor has one main job today: create the conditions for economic growth, then get out of the way so business can get on with it.

He must address defence spending.

He must outline a clear pathway to reduce welfare.

He must show how he intends to bring energy bills down.

Instead, Andy Burnham’s government is kicking the hard choices into the long grass.

Deferring big reforms to next year’s Spending Review is just a sign of weakness🤨

Rather than tackling macro-level problems, they are hiding behind cheap popularity and gimmicks.

He won’t achieve any real change by tinkering with the price of gherkins and marmalade ffs.

He won’t achieve it by granting Mayors a £1.5bn borrowing facility - his devolution plan is just about passing the buck.

And he certainly won’t achieve it by bailing out spendthrift councils at the expense of prudent ones.

**Yesterday, the UK government successfully auctioned £4.5 billion in five-year debt at a yield of 5.036%. That is the costliest five-year borrowing rate since 2008.

Both @Rebecca_SPaul and @RosieDuffield1 have been steadfast in their research and opposition to this monstrous bill. The Conversion Practices Bill is a Trojan horse for trans ideology. It could see parents being criminalised for not affirming their child’s gender (!) and would also sneakily bring concepts such as ‘non-binary’ onto the statute books while few people are looking.

Another hit to the elderly?

“Elderly at risk of gas bill blow under Labour Budget plan.

Elderly people face higher gas bills under Labour’s plans to remove standing charges from energy costs.

Cornwall Insight, the energy consultancy, said the Government would face “trade-offs” after announcing the removal of standing charges from gas bills.

Standing charges are a fixed fee imposed on energy bills to cover the operators’ costs of maintenance and complying with regulations.

Under plans announced on Wednesday, these costs would instead be added to the cost of each unit of energy used, meaning households that use less energy will pay less.

Ministers said the plan would save 23 million households around £45 a year, with the Chancellor pledging to look over the next year at also removing the levy from electricity bills.

Dr Craig Lowrey, principal consultant at Cornwall Insight, said: “Scrapping the gas standing charge from as early as 2027 is a broadly progressive move that may help lower-income households who tend to use less energy.

“There are trade-offs, however, as the money still has to be recovered. 

“Higher unit rates mean people in badly insulated homes, larger families or those who need to keep the heating on to manage a health condition, could end up paying more.

Some of them are the same vulnerable households this policy is meant to help, so making sure that they see the intended benefits of this change will be essential.”

A mother was sentenced to 17 years in a russian prison. Her son got 19. Their 61-year-old friend got 19.

Their alleged crime? Being Ukrainian on occupied Ukrainian land.

Valentyna and Andriy Myronenko and Serhiy Smykalov were seized in occupied Berdiansk in February 2025. They were reportedly held incommunicado for two weeks before being charged. Then came 19 months of near-total silence — until their sentences were announced.

The occupation court has not even disclosed the judge’s identity or whether hearings took place. No publicly available evidence substantiates the alleged sabotage plot.
