Senator Loren Legarda insists that she is still the Senate President Pro Tempore in a video statement she released on Saturday.

“Sa kabila ng aking paggalang sa aking mga kasamahan, labag sa Konstitusyon at alituntunin ng Senado ang nangyaring pagtatalaga ng Senate President Pro Tempore, Senate Secretary at Sergeant-at-Arms dahil labindalawang senador lamang ang nasa plenaryo na bumoto,” she said.

Last Wednesday, with 12 senators attending the plenary, they elected Senator Win Gatchalian as Senate President Pro Tempore and acting Senate President.

“Ang Konstitusyon ang gabay ng ating demokrasya. Ito ang dapat nating ipaglaban para sa Senado, para sa ating mga institusyon, at higit sa lahat, para sa bawat Pilipino. Si Loren Legarda po, ang inyong Senate President Pro Tempore,” she added. (Facebook/Loren Legarda)

You can't invoke the constitution only when it suits you then totally ignore it when it doesn't. You can't put your arguments on FB but refuse to show up for work. Every respected legal body recognizes the other bloc as legit. You lost. Accept it.

Senator Risa Hontiveros had to clarify her “para bang walang nangyari” remark on the Senate shooting incident after Senator Pia Cayetano emotionally questioned her statement during the plenary session on Wednesday.

In her privilege speech, Hontiveros called on her colleagues not to “act as though nothing happened” last week, saying the chamber’s “dignity, credibility, and moral authority” had been affected by the shooting incident and other controversies, including Senator Bato dela Rosa’s escape from the Senate amid tensions surrounding his possible arrest.

However, Cayetano seemingly misunderstood Hontiveros’ remarks, interpreting them as downplaying the gunfire in the Senate that she and other senators from the majority bloc witnessed on May 13, 2026.

“‘Parang walang nangyari.’ ‘Yan po ang statement ng ating butihing Senadora Risa Hontiveros. Siguro po, para sa inyong mga wala dito, pero para sa amin na nandito, napakaraming nangyari. Takot na takot po ako na kailangan ko na magpaalam sa mga anak ko,” Cayetano said.

“I was speaking about our institutional posture. Our grief as senators is valid, but our mandate requires action,” Hontiveros responded.

Pinuna ni Senator Pia Cayetano ang naging reaksiyon ni NBI Director Melvin Matibag sa naganap na putukan sa Senado noong May 13.

Ayon kay Sen. Pia, sinabi umano ni Matibag na “wala kaming magagawa, wala kami diyan” nang i-report nila ang insidente ng putukan sa Senado, bagay na ikinadismaya ng senador.

Dagdag pa niya, sumagot umano si Matibag ng “huwag mo akong sigawan” matapos niya itong komprontahin tungkol sa naging tugon ng ahensiya.

Loren Legarda and Joel Villanueva are key to cobbling or forming a new 13-Majority Bloc.

Zubiri and Gatchalian are seen as more palatable to creating a more neutral Senate.

But don’t count Tito Sotto out just yet!
