Remember when 120mph was really fast?
There are 37 players averaging 120mph or higher on the PGA Tour this season. (4 of them are over 40 years of age 👏)
5 years ago it was 21 players.
10 years ago it was 14 players.
College golf coaches should take notice. This kid has a knack for making the ball go at the hole. He’s a 2026 kid who took to the game a little late (lacrosse) and has a tremendous ceiling. He’s polite, he’s a hard worker, he’s a good student - and he finished second today in the Kentucky Boys Junior Amateur. Will Stuart is his name.
The older you get the bigger a role physical conditioning plays in your golf potential.
For a lot of golfers, their physical capabilities hugely limit their potential.
Thankfully this is very easy to change with appropriate training.
Appropriate being a key word.
STAT OF THE DAY: 🧑🔬 No matter how much ground force you create (any of the 3)...it doesn't matter unless you apply it at the right time.
2 golfers with 2,000 newtons of vertical force applied in the downswing produced 20 mph difference club speed with ONE DIFFERENCE...
One applied it as they started the transition from the top...the other applied it after he hit the ball.
Timing matters

Cam Davis in 2018 discussing the importance of in-season strength training as a young pro.
Competitive players should learn to train during tournament weeks.
Manage load, volume, exercise selection and intensity without sacrificing consistency.
If you have elbow pain as a golfer, the first place to look is the same side shoulder for a lack of external rotation.
Next place is hip internal rotation limitation.
"I had some back injuries around the middle-end of my two years in college. I thought the issue was my back, but when I started therapy I realized it was likely caused by my hips being tight."
- Justin Thomas
HOT TAKE: With so many things to potentially do in the gym as a golfer, it’s ABSURD how simply improving your hip mobility gives 90% of golfers such an outsized return compared to most other options
Justin Rose is a great ad for physical training.
Sure we focus on the power development of Rory and Bryson, but Rose is a gym fanatic too.
It shows in his longevity.
2nd in his last two majors, at age 44.
There is only upside to good quality physical training!
