Health-related quality of life in patients with conditions affecting the hand: #metaanalysis
➡️ https://t.co/h95RpgnEfY
This #metaanalysis aimed to determine health state utility values for electively managed conditions affecting the hand.
Pooled health state utility value estimates for carpal tunnel syndrome and hand osteoarthritis before surgical intervention were 0.69 (95% c.i. 0.66 to 0.73) and 0.63 (95% c.i. 0.60 to 0.67) respectively.
These health state utility value estimates suggest patients with untreated carpal tunnel syndrome and hand osteoarthritis have substantial impairments in #QOL and are comparable to health states experienced by patients with coronary artery disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Great work by Luke Geoghegan, Maria Carolina, James French, Conrad J Harrison, Jeremy N Rodrigues

Be under no illusion
A BIG part of the problem to medical de professionalisation is the absolute learned helplessness of our profession
The lack of the art of adult conflict resolution, diplomatic management
Constant ‘reporting’ on one another or bullying to deal with issues
A massive thank you to the teams at @GangaWebteam and @AcademicBucks@BucksHealthcare for providing the opportunity to attend the Ganga Microsurgery course. Learnt an incredible amount over the week and am excited to implement these lessons during my CT2 year @BucksHealthcare!
The ISCP is mandatory for all surgical trainees. It costs £260 per year every year. With the erosion of pay and increasing expenses of education and training we are calling on the Joint Committee on Surgical Training to scrap the ISCP fee.
