So true. You can go to every summer 5 am workout, hills, conditioning, and when the season comes have your spot taken by the transfer that runs a 4.5. The coach will put the best player on the field. Period. Be fresh, be fast.

Toughness is task-specific.

The ability to execute performance-level skills, in competition, wins games.

Public displays of toughness, leadership, culture, effort, and conditioning are detrimental to “the cause”. (aka winning)
