A group of anti-ICE protesters in Texas were sentenced to 30 to 100 years in jail on Tuesday, after federal prosecutors accused them of being an "antifa terror cell."
The activists attended a protest and noise demonstration outside the Prairieland ICE jail in Alvarado, Texas. All nine defendants were found guilty after being tried before a federal judge in Texas.
The maximum sentences prosecutors sought in the case stand in stark contrast to the treatment of January 6 U.S. Capitol insurrectionists, says Sufia Khalid, who represented one of the defendants, Maricela Rueda.
Rueda has been sentenced to 70 years in prison for attending the demonstration, while "the average sentence in the Capitol riots, which had far more serious conduct than the Prairieland Nine defendants, was 26 months."
We cannot consider #AI to be morally neutral. In reality, every technical tool embodies choices and priorities through what it measures, ignores, and optimizes, and how it classifies people and situations. Ethical discernment cannot be limited to asking whether we are using a system for good or bad purposes. It must also examine how that system is designed and what vision of the human person and society is embedded in the data and models that guide it. #MagnificaHumanitas
When I say the country is institutionally rigged for Republicans I’m talking about how Virginia gets their maps struck down after a two year process involving multiple legislative sessions and a statewide referendum but Tennessee can just decide not to enfranchise Memphis anymore
On Monday the Trump admin will launch the tariff refund system for the $166 billion in tariffs they illegally collected.
And all of that money will go to companies.
56,497 importers are set to get refunds so far, with no requirement they pass that money along to customers.
Middle-class Americans can expect to pay $900 more in taxes under Trump’s OBBB, and many red states will see over a $1000 increase.
The top 1% can expect $117 billion in tax cuts this year, one part of their $1 trillion reduction over the 10 years.
While major corporations dodge taxes this season, the bottom 95% is shafted with tax hikes brought on by tariffs.

TEAM USA: We’re listening to a man describe in detail the raid to kill Osama Bin Laden to prepare us to play Canada in baseball.
Instead of taking Live Nation-Ticketmaster to trial, Trump just let them off the hook.
The federal government had been building a case for years, and could have broken up the Live Nation-Ticketmaster monopoly.
But Trump just let them settle out of court.
Iran is allowing CNN, an American network from a country currently bombing Iran alongside Israel, into the country to document the war. Imagine Israel allowing Iranian media into their country? Israel arrested me, an American journalist from its "closest ally" simply for documenting Iranian attacks on the country the wrong way.
