The Hon. Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki, continues his engagements at Makerere University, moving through faculty exhibitions and interacting directly with researchers, scientists and innovators.

The engagements are providing the Minister with a deeper understanding of the research, technologies and innovations already existing within the University.

The Ministry’s focus is to strengthen the pathways that translate Uganda’s research capability from laboratories and universities into technologies, products, industries and economic value for the country.

The Hon. Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation @STIsecretariat, Hon. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki (@EngJonard), has today concluded his official Ministerial Maiden Visit to Makerere University by engaging faculty, researchers, innovators, and students from @MakCEES, @MakCoBAMS, @EfD_MakCentre, @MakerereIGDS, @MakerereCHUSS, @MISR_Mak, @Makerere_Press, College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Biosecurity (CoVAB), @IDIMakerere and @MakSPH. He also toured the Makerere Museum and the University Souvenir and Gift Shop (@OfficialMakShop)

The visit begun on 21st and 22nd July and was anchored by the theme: Research Infrastructure, Emerging Technologies and Enterprise Creation.

The Minister proposed that Makerere and @STIsecretariat should work together to:

1. Identify a focused portfolio of high-potential innovations that can reach certification, licensing, procurement or investment within defined timelines.
2. Organise thematic engagements beginning with AI for Health and Pathogen Economy, then extend to Mobility, Agro-Industrialization, Advanced Materials, Digital Transformation and other National priorities
3. Establish a structured University-Industry exchange model so that knowledge and experience flow in both directions
4. Agree on sustainable access, staffing, maintenance and business models for strategic laboratories and common user facilities
5. Strengthen the commercialisation function so that innovators receive coordinated support in Intellectual Property (IP), Regulation, Standards, Business Modelling, Investment and Market Access
6. Develop a compelling plan to position the Makerere Museum as a National attraction, education asset and source of institutional revenue.

"Makerere's history gives it prestige, but it's future must give Uganda prosperity" rallied @EngJonard.

The VC @ProfNawangwe sincerely thanked the Honourable Minister for sparing time to better appreciate research and innovation at Makerere.
