Council Leader @tomhunt100 says this came as a surprise and the council wasn't consulted.
"We are seeking an urgent conversation with Government on the detail and timescales of the proposed changes to ensure Sheffield's experience and perspectives are given due consideration.”
Interesting to see where this leaves Sheffield, which only introduced a committee system three years ago
I suspect @SheffieldGreens won't be happy after campaigning for and embracing the committee system
The Government has announced today that it will standardise the Cabinet and Leader Model in local authorities, which is sensible.
The existing Mayors in England that represent local authorities will continue, but no more will be created:
One Green councillor told me "I honestly believe the committee system is better. It's not good having all the decisions made by one individual and it certainly doesn't improve the decision making or the public's understanding"
