Today, our article "Comprehension and appropriateness of complex mobile pictographs for crisis communication", authored by @waidyanatha and myself, was published in "Natural Hazards". I am a bit proud because this is my first peer-reviewed publication sin…https://t.co/eGMczBbus6
@VincentCMueller It shows evidence that face masks offer an up to 67% reduction of viral load
- under lab conditions
- in a very small room (actually a box)
- without ventilation
- assuming correct mask use
- if the infected is coughing
- straight into your face
- from half a meter distance
@VincentCMueller Fair enough, but that's nothing more than a belief. Could also lead to a false impression of safety - also a belief. But regardless - we still don't have any real scientific evidence that the mask mandate has a positive impact. None.
@VincentCMueller The multiplication assumption is wrong. They results indicate 33%, not 20.
Anyway, to me the practical relevance of this study is near zero. When was the last time somebody coughed straight into your face from half a meter distance?
@quassy7@rmf@Plinz Apple is yet to find a good solution for their usability approach and multi-screen/multi-desktop setups. Already when Apple introduced multiple desktops it became evident that the MacOS approach does not fully translate to it, and nothing has really changed since then.
Sad to hear that Gerhard Goos has passed away. As a student I had to pleasure to attend his computer science introduction courses (that later transformed into his lecture books), and those were amongst the most coherent and enlightening courses I ever had.

In Luang Prabang for vacation. Quite a new experience to just hang out, without worrying about whether servers are running or not, and no duties waiting the next day. Was good before, even better now.
Dark day for internet freedom: The @Europarl_EN has rubber-stamped copyright reform including #Article13 and #Article11. MEPs refused to even consider amendments. The results of the final vote: 348 in favor, 274 against #SaveYourInternet
Interesting... - University of Karlsruhe (now @KITKarlsruhe) had a neural network based Bach harmonizer running in the mid-90s already. Is there any connection to this one?
Very cool Google Doodle today, uses some sort of generative model to harmonize your Melody in the style of JS Bach.
