@DrewForNevada If the answer isn’t 100% then you’re comparing apples and oranges. “Homeschooling” can be great but there are thousands of kids not getting any education at all and it’s basically child abuse under the guise of parental choice. Ask CPS about homeschooling
@DrewForNevada I pay my taxes for police but also for a security monitoring service. It’s a choice but I accept financial responsibility and don’t beg GOPers for tax breaks.
What % of the 28k homeschool kids took the SBAC or ACT as NV govt requires of all public school kids?
@electbarnhill@VictorJoecks@ClarkCountySch Why are you so scared of this situation? Trust me it is a wedge issue and there is a 0.000001 chance it will happen to your daughter. Maybe worry about the self-reported rapist in the White House
@DiscussOrDivide@MsVeteranTeach@JohnStossel@SuccessCharters You have no idea what you’re talking about. Public schools can’t expel because it’s against federal and state law to ban students from their education. Where do you think charter and private kids go who get kicked out?
@GloatSquirrel@TheNVIndy Charters also have a lottery which keeps out many and can remove disruptive students. Not to mention they usually don’t offer difficult special education programs where kids usually fail the SBAC. It’s not apples to apples by any means
@8NewsNow How about we blame the parent of the ineligible player who attends some random charter school? They knew their kid was failing classes but allowed them to play which put the team at risk. I’d like them to be interviewed to explained their actions.
@8NewsNow Just because a parent reports it doesn’t mean it was true. Students will come home a bruise and a story and parents automatically assume the worse when in reality a thousands things could have caused it.
@Andy_Villamarzo@AlexWright1028@HunterShelton_ Were they doing what Bishop and Faith are totally free to do by recruiting kids from across the country? NIAA again shows it is fine with having different rules for CCSD and charter and private schools
@FOX5Vegas Why didn’t they close the mt Charleston school with only six kids and destroyed? The middle and high school kids already go down the hill so seems like same argument
@indybdunn@8NewsNow Put on the graph the percentage increase in special education students and I bet you’ll see a similar increase. Due to fear of lawsuits, districts are having to hire more staff to deal with IDEA requirements through more teachers, aides and administrators.
@VictorJoecks@SelenaTorresNV@ClarkCountySch CCSD did this to some schools when they converted to full magnet. Now those schools are 5 Star by just removing special needs, troubled kids, etc
@VictorJoecks@SelenaTorresNV@ClarkCountySch I’d be open to it IF the charter has to take all currently enrolled kids and keep their special education and ELL programs. What I fear will happen is the charters will just make everyone go through a lottery and refuse to offer special programs (they’ll say go to CCSD)
@CarrieBuckforNV@VictorJoecks There are many amazing homeschool students but please also check the thousands of “homeschool” kids whose parents completely ignore them and eventually return to public school years behind. It’s child abuse framed as part of the choice movement
@reviewjournal If this was just a Gorman issue, the 4A schools would have stayed with the NIAA. It goes much deeper including recruitment, red shirting allowed a charters and privates on-time transfers being denied for CCSD schools while approved elsewhere. It’s a wake up call for the NIAA
