May is Lyme disease awareness month and 9-15 May is mental health awareness week so we want to take this opportunity to talk about mental health problems in Lyme disease. For a long time mental health has been taboo to talk about but it's an issue that affects so many of us.
A positive test result can give patients that hope back and the chance to seek treatment and that is why LymeAid UK are proud to support better testing.
For Lyme patients the difficulty in getting diagnosed and treated understandably lead to feelings of hopelessness. Anecdotally, suicide is the number one cause of death in chronic Lyme patients, who feel there is no hope of getting a normal life back.
