On top of that, we go to the Smoke & Spice Festival every year here in AKL. It's about $10/ticket. Last year we commented that it was very underwhelming compared to previous years. Just got the email for tickets this year. It's gone up to $40/person. A 400% increase!

One of the many, many reasons we decided a second kid was not in the cards for us. When you live as far away from family as we do, you have to gauge whether you can afford to fly with the kids and we can’t afford more.

Was looking into flights to Hawaii (just for fun) and prices are so high compared to pre-covid. We flew AKL to Honolulu in December 2019. It was $1300 RT for each adult (NZD). My tiny infant was $200. Now it’s $5500! $1900 per adult and my now 5yo is $1500!

Also looked up an inflation calculator and $1600 in 2015 is equivalent to about $2100 now. And yet they’re asking $3300 for the apartment.

Choked a bit on this stat because we left Boston in 2015, and we were paying $1600 for a 2 bedroom/2 full bath with central air and heat, spa bath, in unit laundry, etc. Then I googled and by coincidence that same apartment is available for rent again… for $3300. Unbelievable.

A MAJORITY of young US adults are living with family out of financial necessity. In 2020, this was new & shocking. By 2023, Bloomberg was running articles claiming it’s a choice & young adults simply enjoy living at home.

It is 5:30pm and I just ate an apple faster than should be humanly possible because the only other thing I’ve eaten today is… another apple that I ate at 11am. (I have people coming over so I’ve been cooking and cleaning like the queen is coming all day long).
