I'm a bit slow in my reading this week, but I recommend you read this really balanced appraisal of what would be the biggest changes to our electoral laws in forty years. We just have to hope the major parties don't rush it through without proper process

Now that Trump has packed out his national security team with America First MAGA people with dodgy credentials, Australia will need to think very carefully about the future of #5Eyes intel cooperation. More of our info might need to be #AUSTEO. #auspol https://t.co/lpI49ZsR3A
Is contract cheating still a thing in a time of AI?
I've had this query, and while I believe the answer is yes, I'm not sure what evidence I can point to. Any tips? @DrLancaster@CCguerilla@cathellis13@DrSarahEaton
When did it become radical to put a roof over people's heads? At some point Labor has to realise that Australians expect them to sit down at the table & actually negotiate in good faith to create better outcomes for renters, who are on the brink & crying out for help. #housing
Greg explains the problem with negative gearing in 60 seconds:
"It is a tax minimisation scheme disguised as a housing policy, most of the benefits go to the wealthiest and it massively distorts housing prices."

Gareth Evans rightly criticises Labor’s timidity, but @AlboMP’s bigger failure is a moral one; not standing up for transparency, accountability & justice. They were once Labor values. They’ve lost their way and Australia is suffering for it. #auspol https://t.co/uLzCouK7r1
House prices are soaring beyond reach for a generation of Australians, inflated by investor-friendly tax concessions: negative gearing & the capital gains tax discount.
These have worked to make a small army of rich Australians even richer. It's time to scrap them.

With unflinching accuracy, Niki Savva unmasks Australia's media game:
"The Murdoch empire continues its mission to emasculate the ABC, at times ably assisted by the ABC," which "wilts" under pressure from politicians.
The attacks on Laura Tingle.
Endless "Dutton says". #auspol
This is disgraceful.
Every child has a right to play and excel at sport and if that is not the case, whether because of chronic public school underfunding or the privatisation and commercialisation of children’s sport, it needs to be fixed. https://t.co/XMORST2knU
This is a no brainer and communities across Australia are looking for a government with guts. If we can’t solve problems like this that have a relatively simple solution, how can we do the hard stuff like housing, tax reform, decarbonisation? #auspol#gamblingreform
Almost 90% of the gas produced in WA is either exported, or used by the export industry.
So why is there fearmongering about a gas shortage in WA?

The Big 4 have reacted badly to the Greens recommendation to reduce the partner limit from 1000 to 100 meaning that entities bigger than 100 partners will have to register as a corporation and report to ASIC like every other large corporation or split up into smaller partnerships
Labor & Libs have resisted calls from myself & the crossbench to improve our woefully inadequate lobbying laws.
OECD also saying it needs to happen.
The duopoly are making rules that suit themselves rather than rules that are good for 🇦🇺

A kerfuffle of tax officers:
AFR’s Neil Chenoweth brings our attention back to the ruckus between top level ATO bureaucrats and the leadership of the Tax Practitioners Board over whether the ATO pressured the TPB to go easy on PwC when the tax leaks scandal first broke.
When we passed an amendment to Treasury Laws so tax advisors can't turn a blind eye to wrongdoing by their colleagues as they did at PwC, they said they hadn't been consulted. Well it's easy, if you see someone doing the wrong thing you have to report it or you will be penalised.
.@AlboMP was critical of @PeterDutton_MP’s delay in revealing nuclear power station sites, yet is fighting me in the AAT to keep his #AUKUS high level waste plans secret. He’s been critical of Dutton dictating power sites, but is dictating AUKUS low level waste sites #auspol#FOI
👇 by 2040, QLD would need to shut off 45,000 solar systems on an average day to allow just one nuclear power station to run.
that's because nuclear power has limited flexibility — economic and technical — making it unsuitable for our grid.
