"Involuntary hospitalization" is a live conversation right now in NYC, for reasons that are obvious to anyone who's been paying attention. We should be having this conversation here in Seattle too.

We need more resources, more psych beds and more stable housing options for those with severe behavioral health issues, but we also need more workable civil commitment options for those too impaired to make rational decisions about their own well being.

Leaving seriously mentally ill people to suffer on our streets is neither compassionate nor is it good policy.
