Only those who have not been through the academic world believe that this individual is an anomaly.
The average person, who works honestly to make a living and is grounded in reality, cannot comprehend the lengths to which a professional academic is prepared to go just to avoid having to work.
Academics are, in essence, people who write for a living, but unlike other professions that also write as part of their trade, such as journalists or screenwriters, academics do not expect anyone to read their work.
They write for themselves, and perhaps for one or two colleagues who promise to ‘review’ the work. That is all.
The vast number of journal articles, monographs and doctoral theses produced each year have no readers at all. An academic’s job is, therefore, to write without any risk of being read.
And that is the luxury and beauty of being a professional academic: being paid without the responsibility of producing anything of value.
It is not surprising, then, that academic output is, at best, riddled with texts plagiarised from superior works, and at worst, sequences of words that make grammatical sense but have no connection to the real world.
@Ribdr0@CovfefeAnon There was one where he said “a third” but the actual figure was only 32.9% or something ridiculous , so “false”, one of Trump’s million lies…
I think this is exactly right. Society will benefit if we can actually educate all of the kids raise them to their best outcomes, regardless of whether they can get into Stuy or not.
However, a lot of society seems unwilling to actually educate kids - so we are just asked to give them accolades, status and positions regardless of ability or effort.
I agree with you. There was one video they put out that had “extra” tape at the end where a couple of them said some nazi sh**, but that seemed like part of the act to me.
They certainly don’t seem to *do* anything, other than march around a couple of times a year.
As protests go, pretty lame. But not illegal.
@feelsdesperate@Heminator They certainly are not looking after the workers in society. They are first and foremost looking at the moochers - those unwilling to work.
@MikeLevin I don't love that Qatar gave this to us. But it isn't really getting them anything.
What have we given back to them since? Just Tucker Carlson??
@theobjectivist They want to be children, taken care of by someone who loves them. Who gives them a treat when they are sad and who tells them they are smart and handsome and worthy.
Everyone dunking on NPR because they published fake news on accident but I think it’s a welcome break from their usual practice of publishing it on purpose.
