NEW: ICE is hiring another 5000 employees after carrying out a record number of arrests over the summer, according to the New York Times.

Over the summer, in what the NYT is calling Trump's 'Quiet' ICE surge, nearly 150,000 arrests were made.

Despite the surge, the Trump administration appears to want to ramp up operations.

Since taking office, ICE has added 8,000 employees, bringing the total to 29,000, and they plan to increase that number by another 5,000 by the end of the year.
