Team BC continued their engagements with the federal government in Ottawa.
The team had a productive meeting with @ellisbross, MP Skeena-Bulkley Valley, discussing key issues facing British Columbians, Northern BC, and the mining sector overall.
The conversation centred around strengthening Canada’s economy through a competitive and growing mining industry.

Had a great meeting with the Mining Association of B.C. @MA_BC
The federal government needs to be a partner with B.C. to unlock and develop our abundant natural resources.
It's time for @MarkJCarney to deliver results.
Team BC in Ottawa to advance partnership on $79 Billion in critical minerals and mining development.
Today, a delegation from @MA_BC, including members from @TeckResources, @TasekoMines, @CenterraGold, @SeabridgeInc, @FPX_Nickel and @elkvalleyr@GlencoreCanada joined @JagrupBrar1, Minister of Mining and Critical Minerals in Ottawa as part of a ‘Team BC’ effort to advance major mining projects and strengthen Canada’s economic and national security.
British Columbia is uniquely positioned to lead:
🔹 19 of Canada’s 34 critical minerals are found or produced in BC
🔹 31 major projects in development,(~$79B in potential economic activity)
🔹 Canada’s leading producer of copper and steelmaking coal
Recent project approvals show progress—but faster, more coordinated permitting between federal and provincial governments will be key to maintaining momentum and attracting global investment.
A strong, coordinated approach between governments is essential if Canada is going to fully unlock the potential of critical minerals.

The conversation around BC mining continues.
Thank you to PwC Canada and Melanie Matthews for convening a timely Mining Minds session — alongside the launch of its latest report examining the growing gap between resource potential and project delivery in BC and the Yukon.
MABC’s SVP Corporate Affairs, Tim McEwan, joined a strong panel alongside Khoi Mai (@PwC_Canada) and Ian Gibbs (@FireweedMetals), moderated by Mark Patterson (@PwC_Canada).
From permitting and infrastructure to First Nations partnerships and access to capital, the discussion underscored a critical moment for the sector: B.C. has the resources — now it’s about execution.

BC’s mining sector is entering a period of major growth, but meeting future demand will require thousands of skilled workers across critical occupations like equipment operators, mechanics, electricians, geoscientists, engineers, and truck drivers. 👷👷♀️
New research released by MABC and the Centre for Training Excellence in Mining (CTEM) and @MiHRCouncil shows BC’s mining workforce could grow by between 5,000 and 12,000 workers over the next decade, driven by proposed new and expanding mining projects across the province. The report also highlights the need for stronger training pathways and workforce development to help fill the gap.

For decades, @VKFreightways has helped keep BC mines moving—delivering the materials, equipment, and supplies operations rely on every day. 🚛⛏️
From the Lower Mainland to remote northern sites, the Surrey-based company plays a critical “middle-mile” and final-delivery role, connecting industrial suppliers to active mine operations. With eight company-owned facilities and a network of 30 partner terminals, Van Kam reaches more than 98 locations across BC and Alberta.
Van Kam supports @NewmontCorp's Red Chris Mine with freight services including specialized haulage of mining supplies, equipment, and operational materials to its remote site in Tahltan Territory.
The Red Chris Block Cave Expansion Project —located about 80 km south of Dease Lake—will increase Canada’s copper output by more than 15%, strengthening BC’s role in supplying the critical minerals needed for electrification and energy security. The project (currently awaiting permit approval) is expected to create ~1,800 construction jobs and sustain 1,500 operations roles, alongside long-term economic benefits for Tahltan communities and northern BC.
Van Kam also provides freight services to @Mount Polley Mine (@ImperialMetals), supporting the movement of supplies and materials to the open-pit copper and gold operation near Williams Lake.

The 68th Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition made for two action-packed day in Penticton, with teams competing from across BC in a series of high stakes, real-world emergency scenarios.
This year’s scenarios challenged teams to respond to a complex underground emergency involving trapped workers, tackling a dumpster fire full of fuel-soaked materials, rescuing a worker who fell 9 feet while changing a pulley system belt, treating workers exposed to carbon monoxide, and managing a car accident on site.
We were very pleased to have Minister of Mining & Critical Minerals, @JagrupBrar1 in attendance and watch him put out a real dumpster 🔥!
Congratulations to all involved in the BC Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition in Penticton this weekend. Your skill, training, and commitment help keep workers safe across the province.

⚒️@kp_canada is part of the Metro Vancouver-based engineering and environmental expertise, helping advance mining projects across BC.
Its decades-long partnership with @TasekoMines extends across several of the company's development projects, including the proposed Yellowhead Copper Project.
Knight Piésold supports the Yellowhead Project through engineering, environmental studies, site investigations, and environmental assessment work tied to the advancement of the proposed copper mine. Taseko’s Yellowhead project, located approximately 150 km northeast of Kamloops, has the potential to become one of the largest copper mines in North America and is expected to generate ~590 direct jobs, $17 billion in total revenue over its 25-year mine life, including $10.9 billion in economic contribution to the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
This partnership shows that Metro Vancouver is a hub for specialized engineering, environmental, and technical expertise advancing mining projects across BC and supporting the regional economy.

Upgrades to @TeckResources world-class lead/zinc smelter in Trail BC would increase output of critical minerals like germanium, gallium and antimony. Ge and Ga are deemed defence-critical by NATO and are integral to modern tech, while Sb is highly sought after.
China dominates processing of these valuable minerals. Enhancing our ability to produce them in Canada will our reliance on China and increase our sovereignty. 🇨🇦
This is an important project for BC, Canada and our allies. #bcpoli #cdnpoli

To celebrate Mining Month, MABC was pleased to spend time in BC’s beautiful Elk Valley with the Sparwood Chamber of Commerce and its many members from Sparwood and neighbouring towns.
Together with Mike Carrucan, President & CEO @elkvalleyr and Brenden Anderson, @finningcanada, MABC’s President & CEO @goehring_m spoke to the critical importance of Elk Valley’s steelmaking coal mines to the local, BC and Canadian economies.
Thank you to our sponsors Elk Valley Resources (EVR) and Finning for making this event possible, and the @SprwdChmbr for bringing the conversation about the power of mining to Sparwood.
Sparwood has a proud and enduring mining history, reminding us of the benefits that a strong mining sector can deliver to families, communities and the province as a whole.

“Canada has the golden opportunity with many cards to play and much of that hand is held here in British Columbia.”
These were the words of Prime Minister @MarkJCarney earlier today, during his address at the @BoardofTrade. The Prime Minister emphasized Canada is starting from a position of strength, led by BC.
He framed BC’s mining industry as a primary strategic pillar of Canada’s economic future — not just as a resource industry, but part of a national push to strengthen trade, national security, and economic sovereignty.
“We’re building BC strong, so we can build Canada strong for all.”
