@GuyEmma68700@evD026587241476@chloembroidery@Samfr this is the data I shared? The independant schools on this data are "non-maintained special school" and "Independent school"
it doesnt add up to 43k change
@GuyEmma68700@evD026587241476@chloembroidery@Samfr where is the 43k from? no matter how I contort the data from the DFE I don't reach a 43k exodus in the last 2 years.
Over last 2 years 33k less students in non special independents
@bienbutcher Ben really curious how you got to these %'s below is data taken directly from the DFE report:
https://t.co/FNmiOukK8C
unless you have some way of stripping out even more special independent schools?
@uk_sf_writer@RachelReevesMP Number of Special educational needs students in private schools actually rose.
Over 90,000 less students in state schools btw.
@bienbutcher Ben, surely you can comprehend that a reduction in total private school pupils does not = students moving from private to state schools?
In the same vein, where did the 90k students who "left" state schools go last year?
@chloembroidery@evD026587241476@GuyEmma68700@Samfr yes funny that, because we have 112,000 less students? who are these teachers gonna teach?
Class sizes are also decreasing, so less students per teacher (26.6 to 25.9 in last 2 years)
@GuyEmma68700@evD026587241476@Samfr Even if you were to remove all specialist schools and look at other Independents, it is still only -3.82% vs -1.07%
@GuyEmma68700@evD026587241476@Samfr You are sharing a random table with no source, please share where you have extrapolated out the SEND schools as that is not in the DFE data. Happy to be proven wrong on all counts.
@GuyEmma68700@evD026587241476@Samfr 43k haven't "left" that is the change in total population in private schools the total that "left" is probably way bigger!
All school populations are down, stop comparing a policy stating private to state transfers vs a Net pupil change. They are not the same thing.
@GuyEmma68700@evD026587241476@Samfr Where are you getting these figures from? and why does demographic change matter when comparing State vs private schools?
The real figures (from the DFE) are below. 3.76% change for Private and 1.07% change for State schools. Not an 7.3% difference like you said.
@evD026587241476@GuyEmma68700@Samfr I didnt say there was no movement due to the VAT policy, I said the metric measured are not the same.
Yes there is a higher % reduction in private schools, but that doesnt mean all 30k reduction = 30k students moving from private to state. There are Less TOTAL students
@evD026587241476@GuyEmma68700@Samfr I think some may be going to state schools, but total UK pupil count is down. I don't think there is a mass exodus, I think more pupils are leaving (18+ students) than are entering (primary age students) leading to less total pupils.
The data is all there https://t.co/DDZ20VAVlY
@LeeHurstComic None, the total State school figures were down (hilariously more private schools opened) due to the overall student count being down over 112,000 pupils.
@abritishparent@EducationNotTax@vickygrayson_ You miss my point, the DFE that I linked shows those schools as separate. Independent schools (Not including Independent special schools) are shown to have increased by 41.
The overall point being its clearly still profitable to operate while total pupil figures are down
