Earlier this week, Radiological Emergency Preparedness Manager Haley Campbell and Deputy Operations Chief Sebastian Gely graduated as members of Class 16 of the Missouri Leadership Academy. This six-month program selects emerging leaders from across all @MoGov executive departments to develop new skills and strengthen public service. Before graduation, capstone teams presented their projects and executive summaries to @GovMikeKehoe’s cabinet and senior leadership. We're very proud of Haley and Sebastian and extend our congratulations to them!
The Great “ShakeOut” Annual Earthquake Drill is only four weeks away! More than 260,000 Missourians are already registered for the annual “Drop, Cover, Hold On” exercise.
“Many people do not realize that Missouri is home to a large, active seismic zone in the Bootheel,” State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Director Jim Remillard said. “So far in 2026, there have been 110 small earthquakes in our state – the most recent on Sunday. While these are generally under 2.0 magnitude earthquakes and not felt by most people, the ShakeOut drill is a great opportunity to practice three simple actions so you’ll know what to do when an earthquake occurs, which can happen without warning.”
🏆 In July, GIS Specialist Lucius Creamer was recognized by @Esri for his work revamping SEMA’s Daily Brief. Next week, he is closing out the 35th Missouri State Emergency Management Conference with a session about @MoGov’s GIS Infrastructure: Accelerating Incident Awareness.
🌎 His presentation will provide a broad overview of how @MoSEMA_ uses GIS, including the new Incident Status Dashboard, and showcase its use during FIFA World Cup. Additional resources – including how to get licenses and imagery – will also be discussed.
🚨 There is still time to register and join more than 300 local emergency management and public safety professionals at this 3-day event! https://t.co/i7b7kk5Yeh

Today, the HEAT has caused a statewide shade of PINK. Missouri is looking a little rosy but the temps not so much. 🥵 Hydrate & avoid outdoor activities during the triple digit heat index values these next couple of days. Take the extreme heat warning seriously & stay cool!
Thank you @firstladykehoe for the opportunity to showcase our team’s talent during last week’s tour of the medical tent. Our Disaster Medical Assistance Team integrates personnel from all walks of life across Missouri and deploys to large-scale events when requested to ease the strain on the local healthcare system. Great partnership with @KCMOFireDept and the @DMHDisaster's Behavioral Health Strike Team during such a historic moment for Kansas City, as one of the 16 official host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
We’re less than one week away from the Statewide Tornado Drill. Last year in Missouri was the deadliest year for tornadoes in 14 years. Tornado safety isn’t only about reacting in the moment... preparation ahead of time is equally essential. Our StormAware site has short videos that show how to protect yourself from severe weather in different scenarios - home, school, mobile home, etc. Check it out here: https://t.co/KN6fsHEIqn
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at SEMA! Travel safely. Special thanks to all in public who will forego time with family and friends to serve the public today!
Preparedness off the field is just as important, especially during emergencies & disasters. Are you ready?
