Overprotected kids become unprepared adults.
Dawn Staley nailed it.🔥
You can’t shelter your child from every hard moment and then expect them to handle adversity when it counts.
Hard is the lesson.

🚨 COMMITTED? READ THIS FIRST. 🚨
Committing to a college is NOT the finish line.
It’s the moment expectations begin.
When you say YES to a school, you’re also saying yes to:
⚠️ Higher academic standards
⚠️ Faster, stronger competition
⚠️ Intense strength & conditioning
⚠️ Accountability every single day
⚠️ Representing a program bigger than yourself
College coaches are not expecting you to arrive and get ready.
They expect you to arrive ready.
That means before Day 1 you should already be preparing:
📚 Academically — time management, discipline, study habits
🥎 Athletically — strength, conditioning, skill development
🍎 Nutritionally — understanding how to fuel your body for performance, recovery, and endurance
🧠 Mentally — resilience, coachability, leadership
Proper nutrition is a HUGE transition for college athletes.
It’s not about dieting.
It’s about learning how to:
✔ Fuel workouts and games
✔ Recover faster after training
✔ Maintain energy through long days
✔ Support strength gains and injury prevention
Many athletes struggle early in college not because they lack talent…
But because they never learned how to take care of their body like a college athlete.
Here’s the reality:
The athletes who thrive don’t just train harder.
They prepare smarter.
They show up ready in the classroom, on the field, in the weight room — and at the dining table.
Because when you step on campus…
There is no “getting comfortable.”
There is only being ready.
As college softball season gets closer, I want you watching games with intention — not just as a fan, but as a student of the game.
Every inning is an opportunity to learn. Every pitch tells a story.
Here’s what I hope you’re paying attention to when you watch 👀👇
When you watch college softball, watch for:
• How players compete when things aren’t going their way
Bad calls. Tough innings. Errors. Notice who stays steady and who spirals.
• Body language between pitches and between plays
Confidence is quiet. Watch how elite athletes carry themselves even after failure.
• Communication
Infield chatter. Dugout energy. Pitcher–catcher connection. This matters more than you think.
• Tempo and pace of play
College softball moves fast. Notice how prepared players are before the ball is hit.
• Defensive urgency
Every rep matters. No jogging. No coasting. Effort is non-negotiable.
• How hitters adjust
Early swings vs late swings. What changes after strike one? After an out? After an at-bat doesn’t go their way?
• Situational awareness
Score. Outs. Runners. Count. Great players always know the situation.
• Coach–player interactions
Corrections, encouragement, accountability. This tells you a lot about program culture.
• The little things
Backups. Cutoffs. Hustle on and off the field. These are the details coaches notice.
Watching with intention helps you play with intention.
If you want to play at the next level, stop watching passively.
Watch like a future college athlete.
Learn like one.
Prepare like one.
Everything you do in this process should be intentional — including how you watch the game.
Athletes, in 2026, it’s time to implement serious discipline and finally put away and/or strategically manage your “dream killer.”
Most HS and College students average 6-9 hours of screen time a day! Let that sink in….phones are literally stealing athletes time. And time lost = goals lost….
Take charge of your destiny by controlling your screen time… Every single diversion (notification) to a phone averages 20 min lost in your day. If you don't make the starting line-up ... or reach your long range athletic goals, it’s likely that your time spent on a phone, or behind a screen, will become a source of regret…
Get off Tik Tok, Instagram, Snap, etc. Get to the field, gym, cages, weight room, etc … with a plan. Put in the work and significantly increase your odds of becoming all your dream of!!!
@JakeFurr11 I just wanted to thank all of the community, the school and especially the players and coaches that made Lady Lex softball a special program to be a part of. We had a great run the last 6 years and a lot of fun along the way!
At Wednesday's School Board Meeting, Lexington High School accepted the resignation of head softball coach, Todd Galownia. He went 112-46 during his tenure at Lexington with the first regional championship in 23 years during the 2025 season.
Matt Campbell took over a program that went 3-9, 2-10, 3-9 in the three years before he arrived.
He turned Iowa State into the winningest program in school history.
Now he's bringing that blueprint to Penn State.
Here are the 5 values behind Matt Campbell's culture:
Saw it after the whistles and saw it after the clock hit zeroes — Michigan wanted a fight today.
Props to the better program for not giving it to them.
