We recently got the news of Praggnanandhaa being felicitated by the Tamil Nadu Government for his amazing performance at the Norway Chess 2026. Now, we see another state Government coming forward to support chess!
Bihar's Reyan Md. was felicitated by the Chief Minister of Bihar Samrat Choudhary and Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh for winning two gold medals and one bronze medal at the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2026. 15-year-old Reyan (born in 2011) was presented with a cheque of ₹22.5 lakh (US$ 23,574), a shawl, and a memento in recognition of his achievement.
Speaking to ChessBase India, Reyan's mother Heena mentioned, "We are deeply grateful to Dharmendra Kumar Sir, Secretary of the All Bihar Chess Association, and Ravindran Shankaran Sir, Director General of the Bihar State Sports Authority, for their invaluable support and encouragement, which made this recognition possible."
Reyan is currently rated 2180 Elo. He won the gold in the under-18 section of the Commonwealth Championships in rapid and blitz and the bronze in the classical section. Reyan's highest rating was 2300+ last year. He has dipped a bit in the ratings recently, but is very likely to come back strongly.
Reyan is Bihar's best hope for becoming the first GM from the state. It's wonderful to see the state Government supporting a young talent like him. This amount is sure to help him in his chess training and travel to tournaments. We wish Reyan the best in his journey of becoming an IM and eventually a GM as well!

🚨 RAJDEEP: You lost 170 days in jail under NSA… no anger?
SONAM WANGCHUK: None. I’m grateful. I used it for higher learning… for a spiritual experience.
No resentment.
No outrage.
A quiet transcendence of reaction.
A level of self-awareness only a rare few ever attain. 🙏
Public stopped in the middle of the road so an MLA can welcome a minister with garlands.
This is the level of entitlement in Indian politics. Citizens are treated like obstacles while netas turn public roads into their private stage for photo-ops. 🤡

This is Sarita Kashyap.
She has been a single mother for the past 20 years and has a daughter who is in college. To meet her household expenses, she sets up a Rajma Chawal stall on her scooter near a CNG pump in Peeragarhi, Delhi. The rates are: half a plate for 40 rupees, a full plate for 60 rupees. Even if you don't have money, she won't let you go hungry. She'll feed you by saying, "Eat the food, pay when you have money," regardless of your caste, religion, or sect. She feeds the poor children near her for free and buys their school notebooks, books, uniforms, shoes, or whatever they need. And yes, she also teaches children in her free time. Has any channel highlighted this woman? No, because there's no glamour in her story. Anyway, I salute this woman from the bottom of my heart. May she earn a lot and make great progress in life.
When the Government of India announced the Padma Shri for Dr. Tapan Kumar Lahiri,
the protocol required him to travel to Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi to receive the honor from the President.
However, Dr. Lahiri was hesitant to go. His reasoning was simple: "If I go to Delhi, who will look after my patients in the OPD?" For him, a day away from the hospital wasn't a holiday; it was a day his patients—many of whom traveled from Bihar and rural UP—would go untreated.
Finally he did go given the prestige associated with the event.
Who is Dr Tapan Lahiri?
Dr. Tapan Kumar Lahiri is a legendary Indian cardiothoracic surgeon and professor commonly referred to as the "Saint of BHU". Dr. Lahiri has done FRCS and MCh and working in BHU.
Dr. Lahiri’s commitment to the poor is extraordinary.
In 1994, when his salary (including allowances) exceeded ₹1 lakh, he stopped taking it entirely, directing the university to use the funds for the treatment of underprivileged patients.
After retiring in 2003, he continued this practice with his pension. He keeps only enough to cover two simple meals a day and donates the remainder to the BHU patient fund.
Even in his 80s, he has been known to walk to the hospital at 6:00 AM daily, carrying a simple bag and a black umbrella, to check on his patients.
As he says
"With the grace of Lord Vishwanath and Maa Annapurna, I will keep serving patients till my last breath."

This is BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh.
A top-quality road was built during the previous govt in Raipur.
But it seems that good road became an eyesore for someone.
The municipality sent a JCB to destroy a perfectly functional road.
Allegedly to issue a new tender for repair or reconstruction
Imagine the level of corruption the BJP is carrying out across India.
