We were honored to attend the 4th Global @ncdalliance Forum in Kigali, Rwanda that brings together 650 delegates from around the world to share best practices on advocating for the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). During this three-day event, our Founder & CEO, Duncan Van Dusen, officially announced the launch of CATCH India alongside our partners from @Hriday_Org. CATCH India, a joint initiative additionally with @UTHealthSPH, aims to address the growing burden of NCDs through the implementation of CATCH PE Journeys, our K-8 physical education program that is evidence-based, cost-effective, scalable, and sustainable. The need for high-quality student physical education and professional development is imperative where NCDs are on the rise in India due to sedentary lifestyles. Lived Experience Champion Mr Subramaniam shared his inspiring journey highlighting his resilience in managing diabetes while maintaining a dynamic personal & professional life. He emphasized staying informed, avoiding social media misinformation, following personalized care plan.
Dr Pradeepa Guha, MDRF shared policy recommendations on preventing diabetes & metabolic NCDs focusing on healthy food subsidies, raising taxes on unhealthy foods, promoting physical activity and a multisectoral approach to implement policies.
Dr. Anjana Mohan, MDRF, presented findings from the ICMR-INDIAB study highlighting state disparities and an epidemiological shift, with a higher prevalence of diabetes in low SES groups in the urban areas of the more economically developed states.
