@dangc8k@dangc8k The command on page 82 is just meant to teach you the syntax of rgbgfx. There is no "tilemap.png" perse. However, you should be able to use any PNG file in https://t.co/REBi4i2hJx. For example, if you use "background.png", the command will output a TLM file and CHR file.
The physical version of Game Boy Coding Adventure is now available on Amazon stores across the world.
Thanks again for your support.
As always, I wish you all the best on your Game Boy programming journey.
@Tokepiz One day. :)
I want to eventually cover all major 8/16 bits systems + a few of the 3D ones. At my current pace, that's gonna take decades for sure ahah.
RGBS v1.0.0 is now available. The samples, tools, and games for Game Boy Coding Adventure all build fine with it, so I encourage you to upgrade.

@wepeelis@nostarch If you are talking about drawing sprites, basically the art aspect, then no.
Maybe you could check https://t.co/yqBFMsKFBD. I was told it is pretty good, but I haven't read it myself.
@block_muncher@nostarch@tomooshi_ Every programming language has its area of application. I would argue that assembly is the best language to program the Game Boy by far. But, would I use it for writing PC tools or a modern rendering engine? Definitely not. :)
@raddevus@nostarch There are many Game Boy emulators. For development, BGB and Emulicious are two good options.
As for where to get the hardware, that depends on where you live unfortunately. You don't absolutely need the hardware though, unless you want to release a game.
@FBXGargoyle@Voultar@nostarch Haha, this one made me laugh. And there is (unfortunately) some truth to it. I can guarantee there is no AI running on the Game Boy though. :)
@Marsmensch@nostarch@gbdev0@modretro I don't think there are any bundles yet. As far as I know, you get the digital version when you buy the physical one from the No Starch Press website.
