"She can't hurt him" is one of the most prevalent statements used to dismissed male victims of intimate partner violence by women.

This study is one of the first that compiles victim impact statements from male victims from multiple studies, noting the emergence of themes.

Physical abuse was extreme, and often included cutting instruments or knives. One man required plastic surgery. Other studies show 24% of emergency room visits were from male victims, while a third of male victims of female lead abuse have permanant scars or broken bones from the abuse they sufferred. The myth of "no physical harm" is not supported by these men's realities.

Sex-based abuse was present, but also often included damage or disparaging of his genitals or sexual performance. This is a deviation of behavior between male and female abusers.

Also noted by male survivors was the positioning of children in the abuse. While legal abuse, false allegations and withholdong contact were common, concerning reports that if the man stood up to abuse the children became the target of abuse were also common.
