Very pleased to share our publication validating the FAINT and Canadian Syncope Scores for ED patients with unexplained syncope in @JAMANetworkOpen
Both showed excellent discrimination.
The FAINT score outperformed physician gestalt w/r/t sensitivity.

It’s almost like we went into medicine to help people… and then medicine made all these malignant personalities as a result, or we need to do a job screening better for medical school
@reverendofdoubt We have a humanity and kindness crisis in the house of medicine; it's amazing how refreshing it is to have an interaction with someone that treats me like a person physician-to-physician - I always thank them for it. It's great at my current place, fwiw. But it's obvious on X.
THEY SENT FOUR HUMAN BEINGS 252,756 MILES AWAY, WENT FULLY AROUND THE MOON AND BROUGHT THEM BACK TO LAND IN THE PRECISE LOCATION THEY WANTED
EVERYONE WHO WORKED ON THIS IS THE COOLEST PERSON ON EARTH
Two key limitations:
1/ No “call-offs” included, despite being major workflow disruptions. AI has been shown to reduce ~90% of these.
2/ Did not include the index ECG, just the “diagnostic ECG”, often the last ECG after symptom-driven activation.
Check out our review article: Beyond Lactate: Real-Time Resuscitation Targets for Septic Shock During Critical Care Transport

If you're dispatched for a seizure and the patient is still actively seizing on your arrival, treat it as status epilepticus. By the time emergency care reaches them, the clock has likely run out - even when you're close by!

🚨New in @AcademicEmerMed: Community acceptance of pediatric prehospital emergency research is measurable — and essential.
This #PECARN study evaluates public support for Exception From Informed Consent (EFIC) in EMS trials involving children.
Ethics + evidence must go together.
