Current evidence is lacking, and benzodiazepines offer a very short-term fix, such as averting a crash, while potentially creating a long-term problem.

At MERC, we are committed to advancing knowledge and providing safe, evidence-based care for ME/CFS and Long COVID patients.

Benzodiazepines (often prescribed for anxiety, sleep problems, or muscle tension) are sometimes considered in managing certain symptoms of ME/CFS.

Limitations & Risks:
– Not a treatment for ME/CFS itself
– Risk of dependence or tolerance with long-term use, and they are very difficult to wean off
– Side effects may include drowsiness, memory issues, or reduced concentration

Our biostats consultant suggested we build out the dataset first, which is how this study came to be. It’s definitely not perfect, but hopefully it’s a step in the right direction.
