@mattvanswol It's truly amazing. All anyone does is complain about how dependent our kids are today because they've been babied or coddled by the parents, the parents tried to teach them and give them independence, and they turn around and get arrested. Its Unconscionable.

There is a whole other level of outrage here. In 2023, VA passed, unanimously, the Reasonable Childhood Independence law which prohibits a finding of neglect and abuse for allowing kids to be independent.

The DA and CPS got around that by charging her with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Rather than try to argue that it is not reasonable for a 5 year old to walk half a mile to a pond, the Powers That Be just ignored that law entirely.
