Paving the Way for Mumbai’s Housing Transformation through Self-Redevelopment!

Chaired a meeting for the presentation of the 'Cooperative Housing Societies Self-Redevelopment – Cluster Self-Redevelopment Study committee' report at Vidhan Bhavan, Mumbai today.
MLC Pravin Darekar submitted the 'Cooperative Housing Societies Self-Redevelopment – Cluster Self-Redevelopment Study committee – Darekar Committee Report', a significant step toward streamlining and accelerating self-redevelopment projects across the State.

The committee was appreciated for submitting its report ahead of schedule. Its recommendations will now be sent to the Housing, Cooperation, and Urban Development Departments for their views. Based on this, a proposal will be placed before the Cabinet, followed by Government Resolutions on approved points. A progress report will be tabled in the Winter Session.

This report will fast-track pending housing projects while safeguarding residents’ interests. Since the self-redevelopment policy’s launch in 2019, 18 of 19 major demands have been fulfilled. To address evolving needs, this study committee was formed in April 2025, offering clear, practical recommendations.

The Mumbai District Cooperative Bank was appreciated for actively supporting proposals. With 1600+ proposals pending, timely financial assistance is crucial, and the committee has proposed clear financing solutions and policy guidelines.
Reforms related to financing, slum rehabilitation, cess and non-cess building redevelopment, Airport regulations, and deemed conveyance have also been suggested.

A proposal for financial support through NCDC has been sent to Hon Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amitbhai Shah. This initiative will help thousands of families in Mumbai turn their dream of a better, modern home into reality.
