🚨 BREAKING: Three days after its Executive Order on frontier AI safety, the White House published a memorandum to accelerate AI use by the U.S. military. This is big (but not for the reasons most people think). My comments:

This new Memorandum, published yesterday, is a direct response to the recent dispute between the U.S. Department of War and Anthropic over the company's refusal to waive its own redlines on allowed and prohibited uses of AI by the U.S. military.

If you remember, the DoW wanted to use Anthropic's models whenever federal law allows, but Anthropic wanted a firm guarantee that its redlines banning AI for mass domestic surveillance and the use of fully autonomous weapons would be respected (regardless of what the law says, as it might not be adequate to address emerging AI challenges).

The conflict led to Anthropic's designation as a supply chain risk (a few days later, Anthropic filed a lawsuit against the U.S. federal government contesting this designation).

Here, in this Memorandum, we see the White House further reacting to that incident.

It establishes various measures to accelerate AI adoption by the U.S. military, explicitly stating that no company should interfere with how the military uses AI (including by disabling, degrading, or modifying its AI models) without the federal Administration's approval.

There is a big shift happening right now in global AI governance, and the U.S. government and Anthropic are the protagonists in the latest developments.

We are entering a new stage, particularly regarding the types of risks and the tools available to address them.

Low-flying helicopters with lights at night, troops moving on the ground, simulated gunfire and explosions in Long Beach (near the old Golden Sails Hotel) and Pasadena (former St. Luke Medical Center area).

Officially it’s “planned training.” But why multiple cities at the same time? Why such realistic urban combat scenarios with explosions and low-level night flights?

And why did the notices to residents come so late that it caused widespread panic and speculation?

This doesn’t look like standard weekend drills.

Thirty senior American psychiatrists and mental health experts have signed a statement declaring President Donald Trump mentally unfit to serve, warning that his sole authority over U.S. nuclear weapons poses a danger to the entire world.

According to the doctors, Trump’s behavior over the past year has shown “objectively observable signs of serious medical concern.”

They cited:
— a significant decline in cognitive functioning,
— episodes of apparent drowsiness during critical public appearances,
— severely impaired judgment and impulse control,
— loss of self-control,
— and grandiose or delusional beliefs, including claims of infallibility and imagery portraying himself as a figure with a “divine mission.”

The physicians argue that Trump now represents a “clear and present danger” and called for urgent action to remove him from office.

“It is our expert opinion that Donald J. Trump is mentally unfit to be president of the United States,” the statement reads.

The letter invokes the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which allows the vice president and cabinet to declare a president incapable of performing the duties of office.

One of the signatories, Dr. Henry David Abraham of Tufts University School of Medicine, warned about “the buildup of psychiatric symptoms in a person who has sole authority to launch nuclear weapons.”

He pointed to Trump’s April 7, 2026 Truth Social post regarding Iran, in which Trump wrote:
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.”

According to the doctors, the warning signs include:
— grandiosity without restraint,
— paranoia,
— impulsivity,
— vindictiveness,
— uncontrolled rage,
— and a sense of omnipotence in a man with unchecked control over nuclear weapons.

Psychiatrist Bandy Lee, another signatory, said the issue now “transcends politics and concerns the survival of humanity itself.”

The statement was submitted to the U.S. Congressional Record by Democratic Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Jack Reed.

The doctors emphasized that their declaration is “medical, not political,” and includes professionals with both conservative and liberal views.
