We strongly condemn the ongoing drone attacks against the Kurdistan Region over the last several days. Although we have not been part of the conflict, we continue to come under attack.
Despite the ceasefire and ongoing peace talks, these attacks have killed at least five people and injured many more, in an effort to undermine the ceasefire and further harm our region.
We reiterate our call on the federal government to take practical measures to end these attacks, and we urge our international partners to provide the equipment necessary to protect Kurdistan from these ongoing threats, including our civilian and energy infrastructure.
Thirty-five years after UNSC Resolution 688, the people of Kurdistan still remember the international support that came at a time when genocide, displacement, and oppression threatened our survival. That support helped save lives, open the way for humanitarian relief, and lay the foundation for the Kurdistan Region as it stands today.
We will never forget the sacrifices of the past and the support of our friends.
I spoke with Secretary @SecRubio. He expressed his condolences on the recent loss of six Peshmerga.
We reaffirmed our strong KRG–US relationship.
We also discussed relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Federal Government, and economic challenges.
"The Kurdistan Region has always been a factor for peace and stability. We are committed to a policy of non-interference and staying out of conflicts; in no way do we pose a threat to the security of neighboring countries. Therefore, this attack is a direct, hostile act of aggression against the country’s sovereignty. It is entirely unjustifiable and runs completely contrary to the principles of good neighborliness."
The Qushtapa Water Project is completed a year ahead of schedule with a $170 million investment. It will provide clean water for over 240,000 citizens and solve water shortage issues in the area for the next 30 years.
We made a promise and we kept it.
Attacks by Iran-backed Iraqi militias against US forces and American oil companies in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq will not be tolerated. Iraqi oil funds must no longer use the @federalreserve and Iraqi PM @mohamedshia must take decisive action or risk severe consequence.
The Kurdistan Region has lost nearly 200,000 barrels of oil production after a spate of drone attacks by criminal militias on the Iraqi government payroll.
Five oil fields have been hit — including two operated by U.S. companies.
This production keeps the lights on and the government running. Without it, the Region’s very survival — and its infrastructure — hangs in the balance.
The KRG welcomed U.S. investment and companies. Now, those same investors are being pushed out in a calculated campaign to economically strangle us.
Our American partners have long denied us the tools to defend our energy and civilian infrastructure. We need them now to help us defend ourselves — we know exactly who’s behind these attacks and where they’re coming from.
Still no call from @SecRubio. We need more than words.
