It might be hard to imagine, but this bright and colourful painting was created during a difficult period in Vincent's life.

Vincent painted it while staying at the psychiatric institution in Saint-Rémy. During his first month there, he wasn't allowed to leave the grounds. Instead, he found inspiration in the overgrown garden.

For Vincent, colours had meaning. He wrote to his sister Willemien:
‘We need good cheer and happiness, hope and love. The uglier, older, meaner, iller, poorer I get, the more I wish to take my revenge by doing brilliant colour, well arranged, resplendent.’

Iran Update:

Mass doxxing operations are happening against basijis and IRGC elements who participated in the January massacre. Numbers, addresses, entire ID cards are being spread.
