Prescriptivism Must Die!

[Kate Davidson @TeaAnd_OrCoffee]

There are worse injustices, but: I'm still surprised when researchers advertise how little they pay their MTurkers (eg $0.30 an experiment)

@PeterSokolowski @mcxfrank thx for sending this along! the age-shift between uncertainty and lookup prob is neat & def fits with my habits.

Interesting; "ass" censored in "asshole", not in "smartass" (due to diff. senses of "ass"?) http://t.co/rjv3KU5kQn

@janetbyronander The separation of figures is an interesting point. I often forget how different they are in the layout process.

It's a rainy morning, and I'm so not-awake that I typed "more then a week" in an email and decided it would be too much effort to fix it.

@ArrantPedantry Thanks! I'm hoping with all the dissertation and job uncertainty behind me I can get back to blogging soon.

[Motivated Grammar @MGrammar]

@GoldHoarder Thanks for well wishes, Adrian! Sadly, not much fun, but I've almost got a dissertation at last & hope to blog again soon!

[Motivated Grammar @MGrammar]

@ArrantPedantry You know it wanted to! But the joke's on them because they'll be hiring me despite my valuelessness.

[Motivated Grammar @MGrammar]

@alexiswellwood @JeremyNeedle I think it's a compliment - they think linguists wouldn't engage in as immoral conduct as that last researcher

A rather judgmental error I've received while entering my academic history into a form.

Speaking of which, I'll be giving a talk at the ART Forum tomorrow morning and at ACL on Tuesday. Let me know if you're at either!

Feeling pretty special today getting ribbons on my conference name tag for the first time.

Late night alone in the lab, and I generated this surprisingly creepy graph.
