What terrible, horrible, no good, very bad, blood sugar on my run earlier. Spiked way higher than expected from eating a snack too early, wanted to quit several times when BG was ≈ 300, ⬆️ water, took 2 corrections, and BGs dropped hard. 56 carbs to avoid a low, now smooth 😮💨
Testing the waters on Threads.
(@mgreenbergnp on Threads.) Also testing the Varisoft infusion set rather than my usual TruSteel. Always aiming for more “good” days than “bad,” while I love a streak of great BG days, maintaining the streak can be a stress all it’s own.
@reboundhigh @MCRiddell1 I’ve recently set up an Exercise Profile that minimizes the correction factor, but it’s one more thing to remember/one more thing to forget.
1st training run of the #NYCMarathon. Running with #diabetes, I set exercise mode on my #insulinpump, but still had that dreadful autocorrect so I suspended for 1 hr & always carry some energy gels. Surely blood sugar won’t always be so smooth, but very happy to hit this groove.
#ADA2023 in San Diego was great. Given the anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ+ state of FL, I’m very uncomfortable with next yr’s in Orlando. @AmDiabetesAssn, beyond making a strong statement against such hateful legislation, consider fundraising for LGBTQ+ causes, if not relocating. 🏳️⚧️
Florida's bathroom ban has taken effect overnight. Trans people now can be arrested and imprisoned for a year.
The law IGNORES legal gender markers, and enforcement is going to be a disaster.

Fantastic talks by Drs. Lori Laffel and @MCRiddell1 at #ADA2023 on Management of the Athlete with Diabetes. What a comprehensive review of how exercise can affect glucose and the varied approaches to manage glycemia 👏 👏
#ADA2023 prebolused for 40 carbs before seeing this monster. I’m gonna need a bigger bolus 🦈
Or maybe just don’t eat the whole thing.
Or maybe soon I’ll just announce a larger than usual breakfast…?
#ADA2023
Debating fasted v non-fasted exercise, this 5 miler was fasted, my usual preference, so there’s as little IOB on board as possible. If starting BGs are lower, I’ll have a snack first.
Looking forward to a great conference, and happy to be out here with @MontefioreEndo
@worm__wife Insurance companies want the cheapest option possible. The article focuses on treatments for T2 that have cardiac and renal benefits, and argues that insurance will favor insulin over GLP-1s and SGLT-2s, thus increasing risk of complications by denying those meds. It’s maddening.
@lweisenthal@kylegriffin1 We need access to insulin now. High costs —> rationing meds —> increased risk of death and complications. This is shameful. #Insulin4all
Dog with me for two out of three miles, and he’s waiting so patiently for me when I get back. Control IQ off. Carbs before and during. Hot and humid. #t1d#exercise#diabetes
#WhatTheTech#t1d TSlim with Active Profile (not Control IQ). 2/3 calc. correctional dose right before the run since BGs spiked after carb buffer. Still may be too much #insulin on board, with BG fall rate alert at 143 mg/dL on cool down, but looks to be evening out nicely. 1/
Another option may be to go back to only one main profile and stick with Control IQ, but dial down the correction factor a lot at specific times when I usually exercise. Again, the smartpump should be smarter and do this for me if Im#’m in Exercise Mode (cough @TandemDiabetes) 4/
